I am giving some real serious consideration about buying a pair of SS New Vaqueros in .45 with 4 5/8" barrels.

What'cha all think about the NVs?

Like mine, Rio. It's an early blue/cc one. Fits my hand much better than the OM I replaced. This one hasn't shown any of the problems some of the other early ones did......Buck 8) ;)

Mine is a piece of crap. I sent it back to Ruger twice (once with a Ruger "recall") and it still wouldn't even dry fire.  Finally gave it to Wes Flowers not for an action job but to just make it work. He did.  It was very rough out of the box and still is. Trigger is terrible.  I have never shot it and probably won't. I guess even gun makers have a Friday afternoon product occasionally. I would feel bad selling it to another shooter, so it will go to my kids some day. It is a very low serial number.  I  love Rugers and have a whole lot of them and use nothing but Rugers for myself and my wife's CAS shooting.

Sorry to hear about the NV bein' a lemon.  I reckon I'd be gettin' it back to the factory for some serious work.  Have you spoke to them about it again?

I have yet to see one, they walk out the door here and the Police will only allow gundealers to hold 10 new pistols in stock (even though the Police are the ones losing the gun from robberies) so they generally just order them in when you buy them. They have the same size grip as the Colts and clones don't they? I have bigggg hands and I don't know how they'll go. I have been using a super vaquero, I don't know how these unleaded versions will go.

Have 3 New Vaqueros, .45 SS 5 1/2".  My first two were recalled - one had a tendancy to break transfer bars.  Still did after I got it back.  Ruger replaced it with a new one (warning printed under the barrel).  Bought another one for back up and used it while waiting for the new one to get here.  All 3 are smooth and acccurate.  Have had no more problems and I dry fire with them alot.  Would recommend them.

I have never shot the NVs but I have handled one, frame too small for me. I like the heft and feel of the OM Vaqueros.

If you have big/really big hands, the NRV might not be for you. think a SAA or clone, if you have problems with those being small feeling, then the NRV will feel too small as well........Buck 8) ::) ;)

Well, they'll probably throw me out of the USFA CSS forum, but I have decided to buy a pair of SS 4 5/8 .45 New Vaqueros the week after Christmas. Hopefully to arrive just in time for my next match.

Rawhide I am in the same boat as you. I have been shooting my USFA SAA's for a couple years now but I want something I can slick up and put some grips on that wont cost a truck load of money. I treat my USFA's like most people treat their Colts. I am afraid to let anyone touch them. I am going to put them up for a while and trick out a pair of Rugers. I don't feel so bad about messing with a gun half the price of my USFA's. I went with the old model Rugers though. I like the heft. I have kind of large hands. It is a tuff road to find the OM's though. I got lucky and found my second one at a gun show last weekend. A guy won it as a door prize somewhere and he never even fired it. I almost settled for a used one for 25 bucks less just before I ran across this one. I paid almost 100 bucks more for the first one I bought. When a company stops making things the price starts going up. I picked up the last one for 400+tax.
I am sure that you have been doing this longer than me but I would give you the same old advice that you hear all the time. Go shoot both and then decide before you make up your mind.

Happy Trails! BSB

The Elderly Kid

I have my eye on a Ruger NV in a local gunshop.  like its feel. My old Vaquero felt a bit clumsy in my rather small hand. This one feels near perfect. Does anyone have serial number info? I'd like to know if it's a recent production run with the bugs hopefully worked out of it.

Will Blastem

Been shootin a brace of NRV's, 5 1/2", CCHB, in 45LC for a year. Both are very smooth, stock from the factory. The only change I made was to put the stronger Wolff Base pin sprins in. I have a set of wollf springs for each of 'em but they work so well I can't see any reason to put 'em in ;D. Have about 2000 rounds through each with zero problems.

Actually had to wait until Wednesday. The gunshop owner that I do business with got stranded coming back from NY. I have not shot them yet, but have cleaned them, and of course, played with them. I have to say, I am really impressed with them. They are smooth and light, right out of the box! Fit and finish - remarkable for one of the lowest priced CAS gun on the market these days! When I get a chance, I will write a full review. But for now, I am one happy camper!!

;D ;D
