Philip Frank Kramer, 97, of Independence, Kansas, died Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at Regal Estates in Independence.  He was born September 12, 1912 at Alva, Oklahoma, the son of John Kramer and Mary (Eggstein) Kramer.  

He attended school at the Illinois rural school in the Longton, Kansas area.  Mr. Kramer was a farmer and worked for the Elk County Road Department until 1966.  He then worked for the Wilson County Road Department until his retirement in 1987.  He has been a resident of Independence, Kansas since October 2004 after having lived in the Longton and Altoona, Kansas area.

On May 2, 1940, he was united in marriage to Myrtle E. (Rothgeb) Kramer, and she survives at the home.  Additional survivors include a son, John F. Kramer of Danbury, Connecticut; four daughters, Marilyn J. Kramer of Surprise, Arizona, Myrna J. Kramer and Phylis L. Dozier, both of Independence, Kansas, and Patricia Mavaro of Easton, Connecticut; one granddaughter, three grandsons, 16 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place.  A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 2010 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 2217 N. 10th Street, Independence, Kansas.  Private family inurnment will be held at a late date at the Longton Cemetery, Longton, Kansas.  

The family has suggested memorial remembrances to Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, and Regal Estates of Independence.  Remembrances will be received at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 306 W. Main, Independence, Kansas 67301.
