Mine aren't in the ground yet. just in their trays. Just got garden tilled. Put 2 dump truck loads of manure and hay on the garden last fall and go that tilled last sun.  So i suppose i'll be planting on sat.

The tub sounds doable to me sixdogs.

The best tomatoes I ever had were poor little plants in a six pack that I rescued from the Grenola market. I had not planned to put out tomatoes that year, but felt sorry for them. Since it was Mothers' day weekend I had my Mom with me, that leaves me with a special memory for that Mothers' day. I got more tomatoes that year than we could eat; I gave tomatoes to everybody, even to Judy at the Curly-Q. You just never know how they will do, usually they like hot sunny weather, so there is still plenty of time. Good luck!

Did you ever try the trick with a Miracle Grow potting soil bag?. You just put the bag on the ground in a sunny place, poke a few holes in the bottom for drainage, cut a nice hole in the side that's up, put in the tomato or pepper give it some water and you're done. My hair dresser swears it works great and she doesn't have to dig or use a tub or big pot.I guess she must stake it as it grows but she didn't say.

Way too expensive to do.  That potting soil is over 13 dollars a bag. :O

WOW!  I certainly didn't pay that much for my potting soil.
Walmart had it for like around 13 bucks the other day.    I don't use Miricle grow anyway if i can avoid it.  Theres better out there and i most certainly don't use it on garden plants.  Potting medium is best used for starting and keeping plants til they can be planted in soil. :).   And your better off using Potting soil that doesn't use miricle grow in it. Use petersons 20/20/20  and mix it according to the needs of your plants.

You can also make your own cheaper by buying sphagnum, sand and using woodchips. or pinebark.
Heres a good tip on saving some cash, if you need seed starting medium, don't buy the overpriced bag in the store, get yourself the bag of regular potting soil and use a box with 1/4" mesh on it and sift out the bark.

Planted two tomato plants and 2 peppers early this week. did mulch them a little.
I needed to prune a tree that grows out and over my patch and think I have finally
gotten the right amount of sun for them.
I refuse to give up my redbud tree and since I live at the housing in Longton, I must work
with what I have.  I did notice this year my patch has several worms in it.
I have lived here since 92 and the ground did produce a couple years but then it needed to rest mostly it
was clay and can't call it dirt as just did not have energy to produce. Over the years I have added produce, compost
when I had the money the better potting soil..........and finally have worms.
Now will see how they grow.
I have hummers this year and they are swarming my feeder. I love it. last few days have had all kinds of birds, like yellow canary type birds, color and size. not just one a whole flock. think they are a type of finch. Also had a couple, one of each sex, try to drink nectar out of the hummingbird feeder. It sits about 10 feet away from my window and when on 'puter I spend as much time watching them. Oh, have a pair of dove that spend time on the ground. I looked out window last week and they were walking down the sidewalk, like they lived here and were going visiting.................Love it. Didn't realize they were so big. love the music that wakes me up in morning.
I love SPRING!
Today, I want to make a difference.
Here I am Lord, use me!

Steve, I make my own potting mix too. I was just sharing a story. We have mushroom soil available here also, cast off from last years commercial mushroom growers. It's great stuff! Several years ago I had 6 inches added to the top of my garden and its wonderful. I'm going to go start a load of laundry now and go hit the garden and get some plants in finally!

We haven't planted a thing yet! Kids at the daycare keep asking, "Are you going to plant stuff in there"? LOL- I say, "When Jeff, decides what I can plant and when." You have to know Jeff to know what I mean. We put manure on ours and tilled it up, just need to get busy. I hope it doesn't get to late to get a garden in. Oh, a friend of mine told me a trick. A amish man told them if you have old carpet cut it up in strips and lay between the rows. Helps to keep weeds undercontrol. Has anyone heard that before?????
Love everyday like it's your last on earth!!
