Wilbur F. Humphries, 86, retired Principal of Haysville USD 261, died Tuesday, September 29, 2009.  His teaching and coaching included time in Derby, Fredonia and Haysville, Kansas schools.  He returned to Derby as an administrator before 20 years of service as the Junior High/Middle School Principal in Haysville, Kansas.  He retired in 1985.  

Wilbur is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Golda Humphries; brothers, Cecil and Ellis Humphries; and a sister, Eva Bilyeu.

Survivors include his children, Nancy Rodgers (Adrian) of Haysville Kansas, Marsha Murray Flemister (Bill) of Wichita, Kansas, and their mother, his first wife, Bonnie Long; William Humphries of Mulvane, Kansas, Christie Humphries of Austin, Texas, and their mother, his second wife, Connie Humphries; grandchildren, Keenon and Amaya Humphries, Sherri Huckleberry (Mike), Jeff Madzey (Kathy), and Mandy Cheever (Chris); great-grandchildren, Brody and Cameron Huckleberry, Mason and Faith Madzey, and Carson Cheever; and a cousin, Betty Holister of Winfield, Kansas.

Visitation will be on Thursday, October 1, 2009 with family receiving friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. and funeral services at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 2, 2009, both at Smith Mortuary, 1415 N. Rock Road, Derby, Kansas.  Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 2, 2009 in Greenlawn Cemetery, Grenola, Kansas.  

A memorial has been established with American Heart Association, 5375 SW 7th Street, Topeka, Kansas  66608.  Condolences may be left for the family at smithfamilymortuaries.com.  Smith Mortuary, Derby, Kansas, is in charge of arrangements.
