What Are You Doing For Excitement Today?

So how many of you know that today is not just Pearl Harbor day? It's also Delaware  Day. Something really note worthy happened near here 225 years ago today. Do you know what?

Wilma

Delaware became the first state of the Union on December 7, 1787.  And I am not a history buff.  I just know how to use my reference books.

I guess you posted before reading "A Slice of Wry" in which it is duly noted that it is Delaware Day and the Delaware was the first state to ratify the U.S. Constitution.

But I'm not hurt............ ;D

OOOPS!  I did not enter it as Delaware Day, just that the state was the first to ratify the U.S. Constitution.

My bad. :-[

I have discovered that I can still do dishes the old fashioned way.  Not the heating water on top of the stove, but the next thing to it.

The other evening I started the dishwasher, put some hot dogs in the broiler and decided to play some solitaire until the hot dogs were ready.  I kept hearing a sound of running water that was unusual for the dishwasher, but I paid no mind to it.  When I thought the hot dogs would be done to my liking, I ventured back to the kitchen to find a small wading pond on the kitchen floor.  The dishwasher was running over.

Now I am not helpless.  I knew that if I could get to the shut-off valve I could stop the flood and I knew where the valve was.  Just getting things out of the way, then getting down on my knees was the problem.   But I did it.  The valve wouldn't turn.  With great difficulty, I pulled myself back to the wheels.  I also knew that I could shut off the valve to the water heater and stop the flood.  I couldn't find the valve.  Now was the time to panic.  I called my handyman.  No answer.  I called my youngest daughter.  No answer.  I called Janet's husband.  No answer.  Finally I called my oldest daughter, who lives up the block aways, but has just as much difficuly getting up and down as I do.  She came.  She couldn't budge the valve.  She called my handyman.  No answer, but she did find the valve to the water heater and turned it off.

The situation was under control, but I would be without hot water if we couldn't get the dishwasher valve turned off so the water heater could be turned back on.  About this time my handyman called to see why I was in such a panic.  He came right over and since we had every thing simplified for him, turned the valve off quite easily, turned the water heater back on sympathized with me and didn't charge me a thing.  I will get even with him some day.

The problem seems to be with the overfill protection float.  I have checked it and it moves freely, so the problem would be in it's connection to the switch that controls shutting the water off and on.  That should be on and off, since it can't be shut off unless it is on.  Anyway, the description of how to fix the problem is beyond my resources, so Monday morning I will be calling a service man.  Oh, yes, the hot dogs got done to a little beyond my liking, but still edible.

Larry,at least you know that Delaware exists. We used to have people ask what state Delaware is in.

Diane, you reminded me of a story about states.  It seems there was a company in New York which wanted to open a field office in Santa Fe, New Mexico.  So they sent a guy out there for a about a year to open and manage the office.  At income tax time, he filed his taxes.  A few weeks later, the IRS rejected his return, stating that he failed to mention that his income was from a foreign country.

As our daughter is on vacation this week and home with the girls, we had thought of going out to the Morongo Casino for the day today.  However, the weather is begiinning to change and a storm is expected to hit sometime later today.  This isn't something that would stop us from going, but is a consideration.  As I type this, I have been informed that the plan now is to go Saturday.  And I think it's going to be raining then also.  Oh well.

Also included in all this planning is the following.  Our son and daughter-in-law are going out of town early Friday morning to attend a wedding of a close friend.  Initially, we were going to get #3 granddaughter Thursday night through Friday, at which time our daughter was going to take her for the weekend.  This morning, my son called and said they needed a ride to LAX early Friday morning.  We're talking leaving about 4:30 AM to catch a 6:30 flight.  This meant to me that I would have to be up by 3:30 to make it to Newport.  Then he decided they would just spend the night here Thursday which makes better sense.

The things we do for our kids............. ::)

So for excitement today, I am probably going to be doing some extra housework.  On the bright side............I won't be losing any money!

Do you have a spa at your hotel there? You must have a hotel register to keep track of all the comings and goings! ;D
It's a sad time here. One of my longest and oldest friends died at 98 on Monday. She was the mom of my best girlfriend forever, and like a second mom to me. Her Quaker funeral is on Saturday. I'll really miss her.
