FROM PFC. ROY E. PERKINS

The editor received an air mail letter last week from Roy E. Perkins, son of  Mrs. E. R. Perkins of Howard, who is somewhere in the South Pacific.  Roy writes that he has been overseas for several months and was glad when they landed after seeing nothing but water and flying fish for several days.  We will reprint part of his letter which will be of interest to his many friends in this vicinity:

"We have seen a number of very pretty places and other places are barren and  desolate. Sometimes during the past several months I have seen the sugar can and pinapple fields, banana groves, cocoanut, date and pretty royal palm trees.  We are kept very busy and the sooner the war is won and I get back to good "Ole U.S.A." the happier I will be.  "I enjoy reading the Howard Courant Citizen with the news, and happenings in Elk County, as well as news from men in the armed services in various places of the world and U.S. A.  It varies from two weeks to five weeks from time paper is mailed until it reaches me.  Air mail and V-Mail varies from ten days to a month to go where I am now located.

I enjoy so much receiving letters from home, but they arrive maybe a number at a time, then may not get anymore for three weeks or a month's time, though they are written a week apart.  The same is true with your newspapers, though always welcome when they do arrive."
