Was wondering where a good place to take my two boys fishing for flatheads or anything really that will bite.  Will be in town scouting for deer season and will have an evening to take them fishing.  Not familiar with the area and any help would be much appreciated!!

There are a lot of walking in fishing sites in the area.  Contact Kansas Fish and game for maps.   Most local people either request you to ask for permission or have the area leased out.  A lot of times the hunting leases are completely different than the fishing so make sure you don't get shot.

.....Just kidding.

Moline's North (New) Lake and South (Old) Lake are part of the Community Fisheries Assistance Program, as is Polk Daniels east of Howard.  Moline's Santa Fe Lake is not in the program, and I believe from other posts, that Polk Daniels is closed to activity until the problem with the city water intake is resolved.  The link about the program is:

The link to the list of lakes in SE Kansas is:

http://kdwp.state.ks.us/news/Fishing/Where-to-Fish-in-Kansas/Fishing-Locations-Public-Waters/Region-5

On this list you can click on the individual lakes for directions to them and other info about the lake such as length or catch limits that are in effect.

The Kansas Fishing Atlas includes the above public locations and also the "walk-in" F.I.S.H. program sites that are leased from private land owners.  The state overview map with clickable two county segments is at:

You can also find public access maps in a booklet that you'll find at Wal-Mart, back in the sporting good section.  These maps show all the public access areas in the entire state, county by county.
