Storms have never really scared me...I'm usually out in the middle of em dancin in the rain and thunder and lightning ( I know I'm a WEE bit strange that way) but there have been so many horrendous tornadoes so close to us the last three or four years that I have started to TOTally respect the wind and what it can do. It was clocked at between 65 and 75 mile an hour last night :P

David I like weather.com cause you can type in your zip and it gives you your local forecast, any warnings, watches and radar. Can tell how long you have before it gets to you and I can keep track of what the storms doin where my boys live. It comes in pretty handy :)

Those storm chasers can make it around the county pretty fast.  I don't remember what time it was, but it had to be after 6 last night when Chuck got home... he asked if I saw the storm chasers zoom by, as they zoomed by the ranch pretty fast headed to town (Howard).  Chuck calls it "put on your helmet and get right with God" weather.
No hail out in this neck of the woods.  Only about 1" of rain, but it came down pretty hard and fast.  We had brown-outs on our electricity most of the evening, until it went out completely around 9:30 or so.  Stayed out until about 12:30.  I always hate that; you forget which lights were on (and TV's) and when the electricity comes back on in the middle of the night, you get quite a wake-up!
Speak of the weather; sprinkling outside right now!  No weather alerts yet (except flash flood warnings).  Better go empty the rain gauge!

They really get around the country fast also.  Just noticed that at least one that was in Elk County around 6:30 pm yesterday is in the NE suburbs of Denver right now (22 hours later).

They don't seem to be as grouped up today like they were yesterday.

I thought it was rather cool to watch one of them go south out of Elk Falls, then east and south again past where Border School House used to be (corner of Rd 20 and Angus) then east along the ElK/CQ county line until they eventually came out at Oak Valley.  They were just behind the circulation feature, and yet were kicking up dust the whole way.

Sixdogsmom:  There is a Bach Flower homeopathic remedy called Rescue Remedy.  You can get it at a health food store.  You can put a few drops in their water or put 2 or 3 drops in a tablespoon, add some water and give it to them by mouth.  I have also just taken a drop and rubbed it into the pads of their feet.  The health food store will probably have something that you can read about them.  Good for fear, shock, etc.  I keep some at home and at the office all the time.

Pam I go to
http://www.nws.noaa.gov/
because I am a weather geek. They provide all the info we see on weather.com and the news cast etc. Sometimes it is way over my head, but the detail and the radar, satellites, etc is  great. I also, like weather.com for the quick forecast.

Sorry to interject here. I know you all mean well and love your animals. Birds can eat strychnine in amounts that will kill humans. Humans can eat chocolate that can be very toxic\kill  dogs. If you are using herbs\alternative medicine on your pets, please make sure that the information you are using is coming from a reputable Vet that is well versed in herbal|alternative medicine. I urge you to do the same for yourself, but your pet is not a human.

Thanks for postin that site David. Goin to play with it awhile :)

I tried to read the other one but my eyes were goin aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh Lol

I appreciate your concern David, my vet recommended melatonin, and she also sells the herbal formula I use for him. People don't think about those things, particularly with cats. It doesn't take much of anything to be toxic to a cat. Yes, humans can get into a lot of trouble with herbal remedies, particularly if they are taking another drug. Coumadine comes to mind, as most anything taken with it would intensify the blood thinning effects that are meant to be a benefit. Good idea to consult your doctor about herbal meds, most are receptive and will speak to you about their use.
