Kate Perkins, 5th grade teacher in the West Elk Schools, lost her mother last night from complications after heart surgery.  She had  undergone surgery earlier in the day at a hospital in Topeka.  More details will follow.  Please keep Kate and her family in your thoughts and prayers.

Lorena Loleta Kolterman, 79, of Onaga, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kansas with her family at her side.  She was born November 3, 1929 on a farm south of Wheaton, Kansas, the fourth child of Ernest and Anna (Marten) Bosse.

She married Melvin O. Kolterman on March 16, 1952 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Wheaton, Kansas.  He survives of the home.  After Melvin and Lorena were married, they moved to the family farm near Duluth, Kansas where they reared five children.  Lorena was a farm wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Duluth where she helped with Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and LWML.  She loved to garden, quilt, sew, and spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Ivan Bosse, Clarence Bosse, and Galen Bosse.

Lorena is survived by her husband Melvin; two daughters, Cathy (Kate) Perkins and husband Gene of Howard, Kansas and Marian Bolz and husband Tim of Topeka, Kansas; three sons, David of Onaga, Kansas, Dan and wife Robin of Havensville, Kansas, and Mark and wife Teresa of Onaga, Kansas; twelve grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one very special sister, Renata Fischer of Wheaton, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 30, 2009 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Duluth, Kansas.  Burial will follow in St. Paul's Cemetery.  Lorena will lie in state Friday, May 29, 2009, at the Tessendorf-Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Onaga where a Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 p.m., followed by visitation.  She will also lie in state an hour before service time at the church.
