Here is a picture of the old Howard M. E. Church.  I don't think we have one on the forum, so I thought I would add it today.

I love these old pictures... and the church one is old, as the house next to it hasn't been there for a long time.
I wish that church was still there. :'(

It had the big old bell in the front with the rope you could pull to ring..I always thought that was so cool.

Thank you, Janet, for posting this picture of the Methodist Church.  What a wonderful church it was, always so warm and comforting.  Both Teresa and Sherri were married there.  I can still feel the warmth of my late Mother's hand as we sat in the pew waiting for the services to begin, and she would reach over and take my hand.  She loved to sing the hymns and had a beautiful voice.
This picture stirred up a multitude of wonderful memories.
Thank you again.

Mama.. do you remember when you and I sat in church and got so tickeled and it was just horrible!
I have no idea what we were laughing about or what started it, but if someone had of had a gun to my head to tell me to stop I wouldn't have been able to. And just about the time I thought I could get it under control, I could feel your shoulders shaking and it would start all over again.
WHY do we seem to do that  all the time? It didn't matter where we go..if it is a serious occasion, you and Sherri and I will be wheezing and gasping and trying not to laugh.
All it took was for someone to do something that we thought was a bit "off kilter" and a sideways glance at each other and it would be all over. No control.. Hymn books shaking.. heads down and tears running off our faces..
I know that everyone has been in the same boat.. and it is miserable to try to get yourself under control when you know you can't...
You can't even clear your mind, because you just keep laughing.

I thought my daughters and I were the only ones that embarassed ourselves with uncontrolled giggles in public places.  When my four get together there is bound to be something happen.

I will share a little story with ya'll that comes to mind.  One Sunday, my mother took her entire "brood" (5 kids) to church services at the Methodist church. (Now, you can just imagine how hard it is to try and control 5 kids, and get them all to mind)  Growing up in Howard, we had never seen any colored people, and this one particular Sunday, there was a colored gentleman sitting in the congregation.  And out ot the mouth of babes, my younger brother (I won't mention which one) exclaims very  loudly, "Looky, momma, a chocolate man!"  Needless to say my mother was so embarrassed, she could have crawled under the pew!

 ;D :D ;D :D
That is so funny!!  Out of the mouths of babes.................. a sure fire way to embarrass someone.

I loved that one, Lois.  That was great.  I attended that church even taught Sunday School when Lloyd Zimmerman had to be gone.  They didn't ask me anymore when I talked about death one Sunday.  I sang at Patty Goodman's wedding there.  Two songs I think.  I know I sang the Lord's Prayer which I love and the other one was The Wedding Song.  I don't know if I did any good or not.  I was soooooooo scared.  No one else ever asked me to sing at their weddings, so I guess I was terrible.  haha
