Warph I did look into this before I posted what I did. Although there are a certain number of Downs Syndrome kids that develope autism, many autistic children are not retarded at all. That was why I was surprised when McCain mentioned autism but not Downs and associated it with Sarah Palin. I think it threw Obama a little also, and he changed the term to special needs to help cover the mistake. That made them both look good IMO. Jeezz!

I believe there is an autistic child in the Palin family. A child of one of Sarah Palins siblings.  I don't have time to look it up now but I do believe I heard her mention that on some interview.

Also, two of her cousins in her extended family have children with autism/Asperger's. There are numerous articles on this subject and her work in the past with help for children of special needs and more specifically Autism.
