Need advice AGAIN

After all this rain and the dog and I going in and out all the time   my apartment
now smells like a wet dog..........Since he is an older neutered male, I am also noticing
a smell of urine.

I don't see any. He isn't spraying at night. I think he has just been wet enough and maybe being on old
dog this is normal........the rain didn't help carpet and couch either......

so what I need is a
old natural way of taking the smell out of the apartment.....before winter gets here and I have to shut up the
place tight. (I can't afford anything extra right now......the bankruptcy is going through and I will be just breaking even for now)

I also must find stuff that won't trigger an allergy attack. Can't handle pine, or a lot of different po-po-ere ( I know is mispelled but so what.......the smelly stuff everyone likes to put in a dish and usually when I go visit (my sister loves to do this) I get so stuffed up it isn't funny.

I am using vinegar and some herbs like Basil ( I can tolerate this) and really need a better source.
You all are good about advice and I hope you have had to get rid of smells  or at least know of something that works.
I have used carpet cleaner ( I use lysol and it covers up for a while.......) now I really am needing something else.

Thanks,
Judy
Today, I want to make a difference.
Here I am Lord, use me!

Judy, I don't have the "wet doggie" smell, but I do smoke and I am a firm believer in Febreze.  I spray the curtains, drapes, furniture AND carpet.  At least when I'm gone and come back, I don't smell that "pool hall" smell.  You might try it, if you haven't already.

Febreze I like and also Zep. But I don't know if they would be right for you or not. Lemon juice sometimes helps. (And that's poupouri  ;D )

I get Odo-Ban by the gallon jug at Sam's and it works wonders in so many ways.  It is a concentrate and lasts forever.  It also is an antibacterial.  When we lived in South Dakota, there were dairy farmers who bought this in huge quantities and used it for cleaning their milking supplies, so it might be safe for your allergies.

You can use it in carpet cleaning water, dilute it in a spray bottle for air freshener, dilute it and spray on furniture, use it in the laundry water.....................I could go on and on.......................

Here is a few web pages that has people giving advice on what they have used ... and some products also..

Karen is right though... Odo-Ban seems to be the best around for smells.

Hope this helps and you  can find a solution.

Baking soda. Takes the smell right out. :) sprinkle it on everything including the dog. Vaccuum it right up :)
