I nominate the Perkins women...Julie, Kate and Susie...women whose virtues need no explanation!  If you need explanation, go to the end of the BHO thread.  Next?

I nominate Beverly Williams who has done so much for the area. She is married to the retired veterenarian Bob Williams and in spite of being wife and homemaker is always there when the community needs service. She is the epitome of graciousness IMO, and I wish I could be like her. I could aspire to a lot less and still not measure up. Not to mention those magnificent flower arrangements she can make out of almost nothing! When M&L was having their Guest night last April, the yards were pretty much between flowers; the early spring ones were mostly gone and the summer ones hadn't started. She made a fabulous arrangement out of a few lilacs, some red plum leaves, willow sprigs and a few other unexpected things we found around. Absolutely gorgeous!

No doubt some really neat women, I know Kate and Susie and I think they are both really neat. I have had the opportunity to work with Kate every Memorial Weekend for several years as she is always at the Cemetery and everywhere else working on the flags, food and anything else she can do. I knew Susie's mother and father and I can see why she is so neat, her parents were super people that really treated Teenagers with respect. Susie and Bill are always there helping the community in anyway they can. Bill's father was the same way, Earl Perkins always had time for young people and always had words of encouragement for everyone.I don't know Dr Williams wife but I have known Dr ever since he came to Moline and he is also a person that did alot for the community and always had time to talk to young people, and is just a great all around person. I don't know Julie but I am impressed with her business attitude and ideas and I think Howard and the area are really fortunate to have her in the Drugstore and Grocery Businees. She has invested alot in the community and I think she will do well at it. All good choices.

I think that any mother of children in this community are unsung heros!!  But I do have to say that Julie takes the cake and so does Kate!!  I run a daycare and buy all my supplies from Julie at Family Market.  She goes out of her way to help people buy local.  I also buy alot from Cookson's.  Kate will help where ever and whenever she can, if you just ask.  I am the Co-Leader of the Flinthill Booster 4-H club, and last night we had our annual Club tour.  We went around to families house and seen their animals then we ended up at Don and Shelby Perkin's lake for a meeting, cook out, and swimming.  Kate and Dave, Bill and Susie helped so much with this!!  So, there are so many unsung heros around Elk County, WE ARE VERY LUCKY!!!! ;D ;D ;D
Love everyday like it's your last on earth!!

I think that we should separate our Kate Perkins', since there are two of them.  The Kate that teaches school is married to Gene Perkins.  The other Kate Perkins is Susie and Bill's daughter and is, I understand, a veterinarian?.  I don't know her husband's name, but I am sure, since she is Susie's daughter that she is as worthy of being an unsung hero as the other.

Another lady who needs to be mentioned is Ruth Walker.  I have always admired her patience and ability to be such an effective and understated leader.  Her husband, Kenneth, is also a gem!  I have such good memories of those two. :-)

The vet Kate is Kate Perkins Whetstone.

Let's just put it this way.  Elk County is lucky to have so many many women who rise to the occasion and do whatever they can for the betterment of Elk County.  I don't have enough fingers and toes to count those that I think are very very deserving.  And don't forget the other gender of which there are many that go above and beyond.  Many do their good deeds and remain in the background preferring to remain anonymous.
MY GOAL IS TO LIVE FOREVER. SO FAR, SO GOOD !

Thank you for your kind words :D.

I have 2 nominations:

First I nominate the Durbin Family in Moline for transforming Elk Manor into an awesome Lodge and Restaurant.  That building could have sat there for years like so many other buildings in Elk county which are being discussed on this forum. They took the idea and have converted it into an incredible opportunity. Lodging that was greatly needed on this side of the county.  Way to go!!

My second nomination is Lloyd Zimmerman and his wife.  After the fire, they could have just forgetten about Howard and not rebuilt, just left another empty lot. But they didn't. If you haven't been in the new funeral home, you must go (before it's too late ;D). It is so beautiful and such an asset to our community! Well done Zimmermans!
