Ernest "Ernie" Altis died June 13, 2008 at his home peacefully with family and loved ones after suffering from cancer.  He was one of 17 children of the late Arthur and Freda Altis.

His hobbies included woodworking, going to Branson, fishing, camping, boating, playing cards, casinos, riding his 4-wheeler, watching and feeding the deer and birds, and traveling.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Freda Altis, and two brothers, Bobby Altis and Alan Altis.

Survivors include his wife of 42 year, Maudie Altis of Eureka, Kansas; his son and wife, Dan and Jenny Altis of Pomona, Kansas; his son, Rick Altis of Eureka, Kansas; his son and wife, Tony and Becky Altis of Fredonia, Kansas; seven grandchidlren and one expected; 8 sisters, Betty Mann, Mary Gulick, Ruth Knight, Caroline Gum, Shirley Drake, Norma Drake, Karen Boles, and Linda McDaniel; and 6 brothers, Lawrence Altis, Jimmy Altis, John Altis, Arthur Altis, Roger Altis, and Terry Altis; and a cousin raised as a brother, Richard Altis; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, and many friends.

Memorial services for Ernest will be held Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at Jefferson Sreet Baptist Church in Eureka, Kansas with Pastor Gene DeWitt officiating.  A noon lunch will be served for the family.  A private interment will be held at a later date.
