Grace Isabelle Humphries, 86, of Grenola, Kansas, died Sunday, April 13, 2008 at Twilight Manor in Howard, Kansas.  She was born May 25, 1921 in CedarVale, Kansas, the daughter of George Evine and Cora Belle (Comer) Mattocks.

Grace graduated from Cedar Vale High School in 1939.  On October 10, 1942, she married Ellis F. Humphries in Augusta, Kansas.  Grace worked at the Cudahy Packing Company for a short time prior to her and Ellis moving to Mountain Air, New Mexico.  They soon returned to Grenola, Kansas in 1945 whre she worked as a homemaker  Ellis and Grace were married for 53 years until his death on April 10, 1996.

Grace was a member of the Grenola Christian Church.  In her spare time, she liked going to auctions and yard sales, and she liked to crochet, make Rag Rugs, and was a very good artist.

Survivors include:  one daughter, Loretta Rae MacCready and husband Bill, of Grenola, Kansas; one son, Ellis Humphries Jr. and wife Marilyn, of Winfield, Kansas; grandsons, Donnie MacCready of Grenola, Kansas and Steven Humphries of Independence, Kansas; granddaughters, Kim Vittitow of Augusta, Kansas, Jessica Humphries of Wichita, Kansas, and Melissa Reeves of Denton, Texas; a great-granddaughte Destiny Reeves; a great-grandson Hayden Vittitow, and a special niece, Carolyn Hill.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Ellis F. and Roland Humphries; three sisters, Edith Napier, Ruby Warring, and Evelyn Williamson; one brother, Albia (Bus) Mattocks; and one granddaughter Tanya Humphries.

Funeral services will be held Thurday,  April 17, 2008, at the Grenola Christian Church at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Gary Bowles officiating.  Visitation will be at 10:00 until service time.  Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Grenola, Kansas.  The family suggests memorial contributions to the Grenola Historical Society or the Grenola Public Library.  Contributions may be mailed to Countryside Funeral Home, P.O.
