Perhaps it was a slow week.

Editorial comment from the Howard City Beacon, August 7, 1875

"Wonder what that couple of sweetnesses had been doing on the grass a little east of town last Thursday or Friday night at 10 o'clock?"

East of town was probably where the courthouse is now. Back then, it would have been total darkness without street lights, etc.
