Janet Harrington

Minard W. Monical, age 91, of Howard, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at the Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka, Kansas.  He was born August 15, 1916 in Grandview, Oregon, the son of Calvin and Ada (Bowser) Monical.

Minard attended school at the Highland Rural School and Upper Paw Paw School and graduated in 1935 from Severy High School in Severy, Kansas.    After high school, he farmed with his parents on their family farm north of Howard until he enlisted in the Army Air Corps on October 30, 1942.  During his military service, Minard worked as a cook and a mechanic until his discharge on February 26, 1946.  After his service to his country, he came back to the farm where he would remain until his retirement.

Minard was a member of the First Baptist Church in Howard, American Legion Carter Rader Post 149, Paw Paw Township Board, ASC Community Committee, and served as the sexton for the Cresco Cemetery for many years.  In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling and won several trophies throughout the state as a bowler.

He is survived by several cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services were held on December 17, 2007 at the First Baptist Church in Howard, with Pastor Gene DeWitt officiating with interment at South Lawn Cemetery, Severy.  Memorials may be made to either First Baptist Church or American Legion Carter Rader Post 149 and may be sent to Countryside Funeral Home, P.O.
