As I was working on my tree today, I was looking at my 1945 angel from my first Christmas tree.  It's a little shabby and well loved, but it means a lot to me. It's a Noma halo angel just like the one that makes a brief apperance on Jimmy  Stewart's tree in "It's a Wonderful Life."  What do you all put on the top of your trees? Any special meaning? Do you have special ornaments? Antique ones? What do you have that makes you smile?

I used to have an angel that had big gold wings  and she had tiny candles surrounding her that lit up. We had her for years. Then the basement flooded and the box she was in was one of the things that was on the floor.  :'(
So she flew on to treetop heaven.
When I do my Santa tree, I have a Santa Claus that I precariously set on the top .. This year I have my little 3 ft tree and it is cowboy stuff so my tree top is a tin star with barbed wire around it and a small candle set in the front.

This year I have a purchased angel that is very pretty setting on a table waiting for the tree to be put up.  Several years ago I made plastic canvas angels for every one in the family and last year my oldest granddaughter asked if she could have mine as she couldn't find hers after their move.  So I let her have it.  I don't feel up to making another one as the plastic canvas is rather hard to work with when the old hands are hurting.  So, I did something I had always wanted to do.  I bought a pretty gold and white, lace and satin and feathers angel.  This year the tree will be gold and white featuring the angels that first daughter has been crocheting.

I don't have room for a tree, anymore.
I really don't decorate for the Christmas.

I do use Christmas cards and some little trinkets that appeal to me
and on top of my tv I have a stick-in-a-thimble size pot and a bow added to it to make a poor-mans tree.

I love it.......and get a giggle each time I get it out.
At one time I would get the biggest I could afford.........and usually get one
that shed all over the place.

One year we lived where we had about 80 acres to walk and pick out a tree.
I worked part-time and one weekend we had searched and selected a tree.
While I was at work, the hubby took the kids and went out into the woods and when
I got home they had it in its holder and that tree took up almost half of the room.

The room was huge almost 15-15 and with a tall ceiling.(about 10 foot.).....LOL.....it was so big that we could NOT decorate the back
side.........beautiful tree!!!.....and no it wasn't the one we had picked out together :P ;).....He just couldn't remember where that one was
I loved the tree, until it started to thaw out and then all we could smell was animal pee.. ::) ::) :o :o...........some polecat or several had
used it for their bathroom.....

I will never forget that one.  Then I did have an angel that was given to Bob and I the first year we were married.
Use to really make a fuss over the Season...
but, no more.

Great memories
Thanks..Hugs and God bless
Today, I want to make a difference.
Here I am Lord, use me!

I didn't manage to end up with any of the ornaments from my childhood.  I still remember what they looked like. We always had the tall silver thing, what ever it was, that topped the tree.  For a number of years when I was younger, I did not participate in Christmas, (to sad and it made me angry).  I was so glad when I finally outgrew that and all of a sudden I loved Christmas again.  The colors, the energy of it, the smells of it, the fun of it.............

I have an angel with a porcelin face, burgandy dress with lace trim and golden wings, holding a lighted candle in each hand...she is on top of the tree.  I have another beautiful angel that is much bigger that graces the top of the entertainment center.  She wears a beautiful white and silver dress, with big white feather wings.  She stands on a little stage in front of stained glass windows.  She has a music stand and plays a lute.  She is also a music box.

I am thankful for the spirit of Christmas in me and everywhere and by golly, I am willing to fight for it.  Okay, so I more than answered the question.  Ha, ha. :D :D

On the top of our tree is a beautiful white crocheted angel with starched wings.  My mother made her many years ago, and it always makes Christmas special to sit her atop the tree.  We also have red glass balls with crocheted covers on them that my mother made that look so unique.  Each one is a different design, and if we decide to change the colors for the tree, they are removable and can be put on any glass balls.  I have fond memories of childhood Christmases, and especially miss my parents at this time of year.

My favorites are my handpainted ornaments that my sister painted for me.  My second favorite are my shotgun shells that range from Santa to bird nests.  My angel on top of my tree has been with me since I left home.  Gosh!  That's been a day or two ago.

I'll have to say, that most all of our ornaments and decorations have special memories.  As I was putting out decorations this year, I came across crocheted santas that Gladys Jones made and gave me, our Manger Scene was made by Velma Palmer, the Mr. & Mrs. Santa's were made by Velma Warren, I have decorations that Beverly O'Neal made and gave to me, my sister, Doris, made a lot of the decorations I have up, we have a wooden Santa that Bob's sister, Juanita, made for us, and the list goes on and on!  So, when I put all of those things up, I feel surrounded by "the spirt of Christmas Past," I guess!  I don't have our larger tree up this year, and it's when I put on all of the special ornaments on that tree that I really get nostalgic!  Christmas is a sweet time for me.  I love our Church programs, the hymns we sing, the fellowship dinners/parties we attend, etc.  Tomorrow night we're going up to the Crystal Cathedral to see The "Glory of Christmas."  We do remember that Christmas is to celebrate the birth of Jesus!

Was that more information than you really needed to know?

No it wasn't.  I just quit to soon 'cause I didn't mention my tatted snowflakes that my neighbor made me several years ago.  She was 95 when she made them for me.  I love each and every thing on my tree.  I'll never a color themed tree because every ornament has sentimental value, even my Santa in his hunter orange vest.
