Bernita J. Knight, 83, of Severy, died Saturday at Fredonia Regional Hospital.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at Severy Baptist Church, with burial in South Lawn Cemetery in Severy.

Public viewing will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to Howard Twilight Manor or the Alzheimer's Association, and they may be sent to Countryside Funeral Home P.O. Box 247, Fredonia, KS 66736.

Arrangements are under the direction of Zimmerman Funeral Home, Howard.

Mrs. Knight was born on June 11, 1924 in Coybille to Albert and Edna (Suits) Boss.

She graduated from Severy Rural High School in 1941.

She married Wyatt B. Knight on Nov. 4, 1942, and he died in 1986.

Mrs. Knight worked as a cook at Irvin's Cafe at the Severy Junction for many years.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Allen, of Milton; two sons; Gary Knight, Severy, and Terry Knight, Oxford; a brother, Floyd Boss; a sister, Anna Mae Adcock, Shawnee Mission; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Bernita J. Knight, age 83, of Severy, passed away Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007 at the Fredonia Regional Hospital in Fredonia.

She was born on June 11, 1924 in Coyville, Kan., the daughter of Albert Lester and Edna Grace (Suits) Boss.

Bernita was a graduate of Severy Rural High School class of 1941.  She married Wyatt Buren Knight on Nov. 4, 1942.  Wyatt drove Bernita and both their mothers to the Elk County courthouse in Howard with a team and wagon, where their marriage ceremony was performed.  Wyatt preceded in her death on March 9, 1986.

Bernita loved to sew and quilt.  Many times when you went to visit, she always had a new quilt in the frames and something new she was sewing on at the sewing machine.  Her familys till enjoys the many quilts she made.  She worked at Ervin's Cafe' at the Severy Junction for many years as a cook.  Her coconut, lemon and chocolate creme pies were loved by all.  Many times, she was asked to bake pies for community functions.  She spent her life taking care of her family and will be missed by all.

She is survived by one daughter, Sandra Allen of Milton, Kan.; two sons, Gary Knight of Severy, and Terry Knight of Oxford, Kan.; one brother, Floyd Boss of osage City, kan.; one sister, Anna Mae Adcock of Shawnee Mission, Kan.; thirteen grandchidlren and seventeen great-grandchildren.

Bernita was preceded in death by her parents, one son David Lynn Knight in 1964, one daughter Cinda Marie Ware Chandler in 2003, one brother Clarence Boss, two sisters; Betty Boss and Verna McDonald, one daughter-in-law Sharon Knight, one grandson David Ray Allen and one great-granddaughter Juliana Ware.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2007 at the Severy Baptist Church in Severy.  Public viewing will be from 09:30 a.m. until service time WEdnesday at the church.  Interment will be at South Lawn Cemetery in Severy.

Family suggests contributions to either the Howard Twilight Manor or the Alzheimer's Association and may be sent to Countryside Funeral Home P.O. Box 247, Fredonia, KS 66736.
