The class of 72 was still North Elk, but the class of 74 was West Elk.  I don't know just when it was changed.

Sounds like the school board may have been directionally challenged.

;D

Yes, Teresa I thought you would know of them.  The reason I have that clippling is my cousin's son is the one in the upper right corner and I do know a few of the other ones.

Actually the reason for the change of name was because Howard High School and Severy High School were unified and called North Elk.  Moline High School and a part of Grenola were unified and called South Elk.  I think Elk Falls was already a part of Moline schools.  Longton schools are called Elk Valley now.  A couple of years later, North Elk and South Elk were unified and called West Elk.  I think it was at this time that the new school was completed.  First and second daughters graduated from Severy High School, 3rd daughter graduated from North Elk in 1972 and fourth daughter graduated from West Elk in 1974.

The firas class to graduate from the new high school on the high way. Was 1979 even though they did'nt go to that school. I think 1980 was the first year to go to school there all year.

Then West Elk  was in the old high school building.  I couldn't remember just when the building was completed.

We had North Elk High School from 1971, 1972, and 1973.  Those are the "lost" years.  My class, 1972, has a class reunion every five years.  Sometimes we have quite a few classmates and sometimes, (like this year), we have very few.  This year it rained, so I think it kept alot of people away.
