I keep looking at the radar and the forecasts for the area down there and keep seeing more rain in your futures, maybe for another day and a half. I just hope that you can all stay safe and well until this mess is over.

But . . .

We are NOT a disaster:

Governor declares disaster in 12 counties
BY BRENT D. WISTROM
The Wichita Eagle

Gov. Kathleen Sebelius declared a state of disaster emergency today for 12 counties in southeast and south-central Kansas, where many people have been evacuated and thousands are without electricity.

The counties included in the state declaration are Anderson, Butler, Bourbon, Coffey, Cowley, Chautaqua, Linn, Montgomery, Neosho, Osage, Wilson and Woodson.

See . . . not Elk County.  :D

Here's the rest of the story:

Water Over Elk Falls Bridge Yesterday Evening

I believe that picture of water over the bridge at Elk Falls would be "negative stone"  I can't remember anyone ever talking about water being over that bridge in the past.  And that's yesterday evening at a gage height of 21 or 22 ft.  The river finally crested (for now) at 28ft at 9:00 this morning.  I hope the bridge is still there!

Someone needs to get ahold of Sen. Derrick Schmidt in Independence and ask him why the Governor didn't include Elk County in her disaster declaration.  Maybe if she knew that the only way into Flint Oak right now was by chopper or boat, she'd realize there's a problem!! >:( :P ::)

I'm going to e-mail my childhood friend,  Sydney Carlin she is either a Senator or Representative and see if she can find out why you guys are not on the list.  I'll let you know if I hear anything.

I hear that 400 is closed between Pickrell Corner and Greenwood County line.

Here is a picture of Elk River looking east that Mother took today when I took her for a ride to see the water and the results of the fire.

That is surely a photo of mainly river and no bank at all. The photos that you all have taken of these disastrous last few days have made it very easy to feel like one is there, even though one is not. I think you ought to form the Elk County News Team.

It's still getting worse, at some point in time between 9 and 10 tonight, Elk City Lake filled.  I don't know if it's just gate releases, or going through the spillway also, but the Verdigris River gage at Independence jumped from 40.5 feet at 9:00 to 51.5 feet at 10:00.  That's four feet higher than the record stage for the Verdigris at Independence.  (The gage is on the US 160 bridge just east of Indy)

A friend e-mailed me tonight and said she had heard they were going to open the gates at Fall River and at Toronto dam tomorrow.

I hear that Neodesha is completly surrounded and no electricity.  The hospital is running on generators.  Chanute where I grew up is having some flooding and have evacuated some businesses and I assume some homes at the east end of town.  The Santa Fe Lake in the south part of town, next to the RV park, was closed today and the water spillway was
really running.  I haven't out if it has gone over the road.  But definitely will be thinking about of all of you tonight.  Be safe.
