Ruth Christine Smith passwed away on Wednesday, May 2, 2007 at the Fredonia Regional Hospital in Fredonia.  She was 84 years of age and a resident of Howard.

Ruth was born on April 7, 1924 at Duluth, Minn., to John William and Alma Matilde (Rykken) Jacobson.  She attended school at Holyoke and Wrenshall, Minn., and graduated from Wrenshall High School in 1942.

On July 17, 1943, she married LeRoy George Smith at Snohomish, Wash., and to this union were born one daughter and three sons.  Ruth and LeRoy lived in Washingotn, Minnesota, Texas and California, but made their home for many years in Kansas.

She was a devoted wife and mother, and was employed for seven years as a parts maker for the Cessna Aircraft Company in Wichita.  She was preceded in death by her husband on March 29, 2005.

Ruth had attended the Severy Baptist Church in Severy for several years.

She is survived by three sons, John Wesley Smith of Benicia, Calif., Charlie LeRoy Smith of Wichita and Duane Eugene Smith of Purdy, Mo.; sixteen grandchildren, thirty-five great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara Settle; her parents; a sister, Esther Switzer, one grandson, one great-grandson and two great-granddaughters.

Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 4 at the Argonia Bible Church in Argonia, Kan., with Pastor David Essary.  Burial followed in Argonia at the Milan Cemetery near Milan, Kan.

The funeral arrangements are being made by Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.
