Margaret Catherine Mitchell was born in Johnson county, Indiana, March 1, 1844.  She was united in marriage to H. E. Hubbell, June 30, 1861.  To this union, six children were born, all of whom but one, James F. who died in infancy, survive.  The surviving children are as follows, who with the exception of Harvey, were privileged to be with their mother during her last hours:  Misses Alice and Marietta of Howard; Mrs. Anna Pitcher of Los Angeles, California, Geo L. of Howard and Harvey H. of Everett, Washington. Other relatives surviving are nine grandchildren, one of whom, Miss Margaret Pitcher of Los Angeles, California, was present when her grandmother passed away, and two great grandchildren.  Mrs. Hubbell leaves two brothers, John Mitchell of Sedan and Dan V. Mitchell of Aberdeen, Washington and one sister, Mrs. Anna Love at Linton, Indiana.  Mr. Hubbell had preceded her in death some eight years ago.

This family came to Howard, now Elk county, Kansas from Iowa in 1871 and to Howard in 1875 where they have since made their home.  Mrs. Hubbell united with the Christian church in 1858.  Her genuine Christian character and devout life has been a blessing to all who have come to know her and she will live on in the goodly influence of her own life upon those who were privileged to know her companionship.  She has patiently borne her long suffering, thinking most for the comfort of those who so tenderly ministered to her, and looked forward to the time of release and the "home going" with a zeal that bespoke her great faith in Him who doeth all things well.  She passed away at the home on Thursday evening, July 28th, aged 83 years,__ months and 27 days.

Funeral services were conducted from the home on Saturday morning at 10:00 o'clock, in charge of W. B. McKinney, pastor of the Christian church and the body laid to rest in Grace Lawn cemetery.
