Harriet Crismas Dies Wednesday

HOWARD-- Harriet "Hattie" (Davis)  Crismas, 83, died Wednesday in the Twilight Manor Nursing Home in Howard, where she had been a resident for the past three years.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Spurrier Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roy L. Brown, pastor of the Howard United Methodist Church, officiating.  Interment will be in Grace Lawn Cemetery.

Harriet Crismas was born Jan. 18, 1889 in Grenola, the daughter of Brice E. and Rebecca (Tabor) Davis.  She moved to Howard with her parents as a child.  On Mar. 17, 1917, she was united united in marriage to Clarence Crismas in Kansas City.  Mrs. Crismas was employed for some time as a typesetter for the Howard Courant.  She and her husband owned and operated a clothing store and dry cleaning services in Howard for many years.

Mrs. Crismas was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

Survivors in addition to the husband of the home, include one daughter, Mrs. Eldon (JoAnne) Clevenger, Wichita.

Hattie Davis, daughter of Rebecca Tabor Davis and  Brice E. Davis, was born at Grenola, Kansas, January 18, 1889, and died August 23, 1972, at Howard, Kansas.

The family moved to Howard when she was a baby. Her father worked on The Howard Courant for Thos. E. Thompson.

In 1905, her father died and Hattie took up his work on The Howard Courant. She attended both grade and high school at Howard.

She was married to Clarence Crismas, March 17, 1917, at Kansas City, Missouri, and to this union one daughter, Joanne, was born.

Mrs. Crismas helped her husband in his clothing store and also conducted a millinery store.

She belonged to the Presbyterian church and the Women's Association.  She was also a 25 year member of the Younger Set Club.

Survivors include her husband, Clarence; her daughter, Mrs. Jonne Clevenger, Wichita; a son-in-law Eldon Clevenger, Wichita; and two nephews, Franklin T. Davis, Denver, Colorado, and Gene Hardinger, Overland Park, Kansas.

Services were held Saturday, August 27, at 2:00 p.m., in the chapel of the Spurrier Funeral Home. The Rev. Roy L. Brown, pastor of the Howard United Methodist church officiated.

Music was presented by Mrs. Curtis Morgan, accompanied by Mrs. Robin Smith.

Caket bearers were Dr. Robert Buchele, A. B. Clark, Albert L. Ciger, S. L. Young, Fred Hasty and Charles Bonnett.

Concluding services and burial were in Grace Lawn cemetery, Howard.
