Ramona Sue "Susie" Perkins, age 88, of Howard, Kansas, passed away October 19, 2024 at Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan, Kansas.  She was born December 2, 1935 to George Tucker and Elwinnie (McCray) Tucker.

Susie grew up in Moline, Kansas and graduated from Moline High School in 1953.  During her childhood, Susie loved baking with her grandmother, quail hunting with her dad, 4-H, and piano lessons.  She graduated from Kansas State College in Manhattan, Kansas in 1959 with a degree in Home Economics Education.  While at Kansas State, she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority, the Acapella Choir, Organ Guild, Mortar Board, and several other campus groups.  She began her teaching career at Eureka High School in Eureka, Kansas.

On June 14, 1959, Susie married Bill Perkins.  The couple made their home and raised their family on a cattle ranch west of Howard, Kansas.  This past June 2024, Bill and Susie celebrated 65 years of marriage.

Susie was devoted to her family, church, and community.  She continued to substitute teach as she raised their family but was also active in local organizations such as the Elk County Cattlewomen, Howard Mother's Club, P.E.O., and was a 4-H volunteer.  She served for decades as a pianist and organist at Howard United Methodist Church.  After earning her Masters degree, she became the Jr.-Sr. High School Counselor at West Elk High School in Howard, retiring in 1998.  In retirement, Susie was an amazing and devoted grandmother to Tim and Hannah.  She continued to enjoy sewing, baking, playing bridge, and gardening.

Susie is survived by her husband, Bill Perkins of Howard, Kansas; daughter Kate Perkins and husband, David Whetstone of Howard, Kansas; and grandchildren, Timothy Whetstone and Hannah Whetstone.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Timothy Perkins.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at the Howard Methodist Church, 815 E. Randolph, Howard, Kansas at 2:00 p.m.  Visitation with the family will begin at 1:00 p.m.  Memorial contributions are suggested to the Elk County Community Foundation for the Tim Perkins Memorial Scholarship.  Services have been entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home, 206 E. Washington, Howard, Kansas 67349.
