A. F. "Pete" Dyer, 89, of Caney, Kansas, passed away on July 22, 2018 at the Jane Philiips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.  He was born on May 18, 1929 to Frank and Lorena (Jones) Dyer in rural Longton, Kansas.

Pete grew up in the Longton area where he attended Frog Hollow School and Longton High School.  After high school graduation, he went on to attend college at Kansas State University, receiving a degree in Industrial Engineering.  He was employed at Phillips Petroleum in Bartlesville, Oklahoma for 35 years, retiring in 1985.  After his retirement, Pete continued his career with his consulting services, specializing in accident investigating/litigation experiences in LP/natural gas incidents.

Pete was a member of the Caney United Methodist Church in Caney, Kansas and served on many church committees.  He served on the Caney City Council for many years, presiding as Mayor from 1997 to 2001.  He also served on the USD #436 School Board for many years, including time as the President of the board.  He proudly presented the diplomas to his daughters upon their high school graduations.  He was also a member of the Caney Country Club and the Caney Chamber of Commerce. Being a KSU graduate, he was a proud member of the KSU Alumni Association and a longtime Ahearn Fund member.

Pete's survivors include his two daughters, Ann McCullough and husband, Toby of Rossville, Kansas and Jane Hodges of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Tegan McCullough and wife, Jera of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Clint Hodges and wife, Ashley of Yukon, Oklahoma, Michael Hodges and wife, Amy of Cypress, Texas, Tayler Ramsey and husband, Colton of Edwardsville, Kansas, and Jackson Hodges and wife, Sally of Kansas City, Missouri; and five great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lorena Dyer; his wife, Jo Dyer; his brother, Donald Dyer; his infant sister, Marilyn Dyer; and his grandson, Cole Dyer Arnold.

Funeral services were held on July 27, 2018 at the Caney United Methodist Church with Pastor Jinx Barber of the Dewey United Methodist Church and Chaplain Jsue Wagner of Comforting Hands Hospice officiating.  Burial followed in the Sunnyside Cemetery in Caney, Kansas.  The family suggests memorials to the Caney United Methodist Church.  Contributions may be sent in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, Kansas 67337 which was in charge of arrangements.
