Ethel Irene Helms of Howard, Kansas passed away in the comfort of her home on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at the age of 76.  She was born to George and Bernice Bell on February 11, 1941 and grew up as the fourth of five children.

Ethel attended Moline High School in Moline, Kansas.  After high school, she graduated from the Kansas School of Cosmetology and began her career as a beautician owning her own shop in Eureka, Kansas.  She was married to Jimmie Lee Helms and raised three boys in Howard, Kansas.  She continued to work as a beautician in Moline, Kansas and Howard, Kansas for many years.

Ethel is survived by her three sons, James and wife, Cheryl Helms, Tracy and wife, Sherrelle Helms,  and George David Helms; her sister, Edna Armstrong; her brothers, John Bell and Dude Bell; and seven grandchildren, Sheila, Dustin, J.D., Hayley, Logan, Brickelle, and Kastiny.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie Lee Helms; her parents, George and Bernice Bell; and her sister, Georgie Wilson.

In honor of Ethel's wishes, there will be a private graveside service.  The family is grateful for the condolences.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been set up with St. Jude's Hospital since children always brought a smile to Ethel.  Memorials in her name may be sent to Countryside Funeral Home, 206 E. Washington, Howard, Kansas 67349 who have been entrusted with arrangements.
