Nadine Balch, 81, died unexpectedly, Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2007 in Mankato, Kan.

C. Nadine Stangle was born Oct. 17, 1925 in Longton, Kan., to Alva and Hazel (Bacus) Stangle.  She was preceded in death by two sons, Larry Dean and Geirge Jr.; her parents, two brothers and one sister.  She graduated from Moline, Kansas High School and attended Wichita Business College.  During World War II Nadine worked for federal housing in Wichita.

Nadine married George T. Balch on July 11, 1943 in Concordia, Kan., and was a homemaker until the children were in school.  The family moved from the Balch Homestead in Jewell County, Kan., to Woodward, Okla. in 1966.  Nadine returned to school, earning her LPN degree and was employed for over 10 years as Dr. M. K. Braly's office nurse in Woodward.

In 1981, Nadine and George returned to Formoso, Kan. where she continued to work as a nurse in Concordia, Kan.   Nadine was very active in community organizations, among them; Mankato and Formoso Senior Centers, V.F.W. Auxiliary, Montrose United Methodist Church, Jewell County Nutrition Site and was a 50- year member of Eastern Star.  Nadine had many interests and talents.  She and George enjoyed square dancing and playing bridge with friends.  She sewed and crocheted beautifully, loved working crossword puzzles, playing board games with the family and reading.  Nadine was a amazing cook and enjoyed trying new foods and recipes.  She always liked a challenge and had begun to master her newly acquired computer, keeping in touch with the family by e-mail.

Nadined is survived by her husband of 63 years, George; two sons, Robert Balch, Greg and wife Lynette Balch of Woodward, Okla; three daughters, Barbara and husband Dr. Luke San of Farmville, Va,; Janet and husband Larry Pope of Coalgate, Okla,; Sheryl and husband Bill Raphael of Mustang, Okla.; grandchildren Wesley and Wendy San, Justin and wife Alisha Pope, Brian Pope, Garrett and Ryan Balch and Hunter Raphael.

A Celebration of LIfe service for Nadine Balch was held Jan. 20, 2007 at Montrose Methodist Church.  Interment was in Balch Cemetery in Formoso, Kan.
