Margery Anne Pickell, age 91 of Fredonia, Kansas, died Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at the Eureka Nursing Center in Eureka, Kansas.  She was born on August 26, 1925 in Chautauqua County, Kansas, the daughter of Glenn and Mabel (Barnaby) Shanks.

On April 24, 1946, Margery married Charles Pickell.  They were married for 54 years until his death on February 16, 2001.  Margery earned a Master's Degree in Education and taught in rural schools, Fall River, Kansas schools, and the last 28 years of her career were spent teaching at USD #484 in Fredonia, Kansas. 

Margery was a member of the First Christian Church in Fredonia and the CWF of Fall River.  She was a founding member of the BPW and was a 4-H volunteer for many years.  She was also a member of and served on the board for the Retired Teachers Association and the Jr. Advance Club.  Margery also was very involved with the Wilson County Museum and doing genealogy research.  Most of all, she loved being with her family and friends.

Margery is survived by two daughters, Chery Evans and husband, Jack of Fredonia, Kansas and Karen Kelley of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; two brothers, Bob Shanks of Topeka, Kansas and Jerry Shanks of Independence, Kansas; four sisters, Lila Miller of Moline, Kansas, Gleneva Winn of Howard, Kansas, Kate Rader of Howard, Kansas, and Donna Kaminska of Longton, Kansas; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles; and her infant sister, Joyce.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 23, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Countryside Funeral Home in Fredonia, Kansas with burial to follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Fall River, Kansas.  Visitation will be held Thursday, December 22, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. to 6 :00 p.m. at the funeral home.  Online condolences may be left at www.countrysidefh.com.  Memorials have been suggested to either the Wilson County Historical Society or the Wilson County Museum and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.  Services have been entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home, 420 S. 20th Street, Fredonia, Kansas 66736.'
