Samuel E. Burdett, 83, of Winfield, died February 7, 2007, at the Kansas Veterans Home.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Miles Funeral Service.  Burial with military honors will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Grenola.

A memorial has been established for the Wesley Medical Center Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Wichita.  Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Burdette was born November 1, 1923, in Leeds, to Silas and Mamie (Lambert) Burdette.  He was raised and educated in Leeds and later Cedarvale.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving proudly in the United States Navy. After his discharge in 1946, Burdett moved to Grenola.

He and Maxine Marshall married on Nov. 18, 1946, in Port Huron, Mich.

His lifelong career as a welder took the couple to several places across the United States. A member of Pipeline Union 798 in Tulsa, Okla., he retired in the early 1990s.  The couple moved to Caldwell for a short time to be near family.  They have resided at the Kansas Veterans home since October 2003.

Mr. Burdett was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3544 in Winfield.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine Burdett, Winfield; a son, Stan Burdett, Caldwell; brothers, Alfred Burdett, Sedan, and Allen Burdett, Grenola; sisters, Alma Bainter and Mary Allison, both of Grenola; two granddaughters, two great-grandchildren and two step-greatgrandchildren.
