Janet Harrington

Harold Junior Ferry died on Friday, January 26, 2007 at the Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka, Kansas.  He was 78 years of age and a long time resident of Howard.  Harold was born on November 26, 1928 at Howard, Kansas to Leslie Clark and Vera Venora (VanBuskirk) Ferry.  He attended Howard schools and graduated from Howard High School in 1946.

After serving his country in the United States Navy, Harold returned to Kansas where he attended Wichita University.  He was employed at Southwestern Serum Company in Wichita during the 1950s before returning to Howard where he worked with his family at the Howard Produce Station.  Harold also operated a custodian business in Howard for many years, working for the banks and other downtown businesses.

Harold was a member of Carter-Rader American Legion Post #149 in Howard and attended the First Baptist Church of Howard.

He is survived by his sister, Anita Kling of Wichita, Kansas; his nieces, Drusilla Land of Eureka, Kansas and SueRetta Lewis of Wichita, Kansas; his nephew, Gary Kling of Wichita, Kansas; and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Lorena Fear.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 29, 2007 at the Zimmerman Funeral Home with Rev. Gene DeWitt of the First Baptist Church of Howard officiating.  The casket bearers were Bob Clark, Jeff Hurn, Steve Lewis, Jason Starkey, Robert Townsley and Johnny Weaver.  The honorary casket bearers were Brandon Hurn, Morgan Hurn, Jesse Lewis, Joel Lewis, Josh Lewis, Alyssa Oelschlager, Abby Starkey, Haley Starkey and Hannah Weaver.  Military funeral honors and interment were conducted by Carter-Rader Post #149 at Grace Lawn Cemetery in Howard.

A memorial has been establilshed with Howard Twilight Manor.  Contributions may be left with the funeral home. The funeral arrangements are being made with the Zimmerman  Funeral Home, 206 E. Washington, Howard, Kansas  67349.
