I really miss the Forum where we exchanged, ideas, family information, and all kinds of subjects, etc. I miss the people in Howard and Elk County, and would like to hear more about them and their Families. I was born and raised there, went 12 years of School there. My parents had their Grocery Store there from sometime in the 1930s, my Brother Neil took over the Store sometime after the end of WWII, after he left Howard, my Parents opened a Cafe sometime around 1954. I married the Love of My Life there in 1964, we moved to Pratt Kansas in 1965. Howard will always have a special place in my Life.

Frank, I am afraid that the friendly Forum of yesteryear is gone forever, as are the members that posted the really interesting local stuff.  I, too, would like to see more about local activities as I never get out to any public affairs, not even the local watering hole or feed store.  I don't spend a lot of time on the telephone, don't have facebook and not much e-mail any more, since most everyone else has gone to facebook.  I am probably known as the local hermit.

Our local reporter, Mom70X70, works most days.  Her time is limited, but she does manage to let us know what we want to know, if we let her know that we want to know.  Try figuring that one out.  As far as I know, the most interesting activity, besides school, is the demolition of the old grade school and the construction of the new Dollar Store.  There has to be a lot more going on as I hear sirens, a lot of traffic goes by here every day (the county road shop is across the street from me and the City maintenance and water plant are just on the other side of them).  Harrod's live a block south of me and there is traffic to and from their business up on Washington.  Joanna's flower shop is just two blocks north of me and I can see her store from my bedroom window.  A school bus goes by several times a day.  Howard is alive, we just don't hear about what is happening.  I don't know about the rest of the county, but their local news in the local paper tells me the citizens are still there and kicking.

I don't know if we can get the rest of the world to slow down and fill us in on the interesting stuff or not.  You and Mr. Gray and Mr. Durbin keep the forum interesting for me.  The history of Elk County is just as interesting as the current events.  I shouldn't limit that to the Winn, Gray and Durbin as there are other natives that post and don't mind parting with the interesting facts that they know.  I have to mention Diane, too, as I really enjoy hearing what is happening in another part of the world.

If you all will just keep posting and keeping me entertained, I will keep on reading and responding if I know anything that is interesting or pertinent.

Ross

It is my opinion that this Forum provided to all of us for free by Teresa and Kjell provides more than ample opportunity for everyone to post and should be appreciated.

Perhaps if you invited people to post by providing some local information for them to respond to, maybe you would recieve such posts in return.

I personally have posted information that pertains to our local area in. the political section. Such as Common Core and other topics

Perhaps you are not paying attention to all the threads.

There are plenty of subject threads as shown below.

1. General announcements & Events
2. Greetings, Birthdays & Anniversaries
3. Buy, Sell or Trade
4. Free,Trade and Barter Items
5. Products & services.
6. The Coffee Shop
7. The Good Old Days
8. Miscellaneous
9. Politics
10. Recipe's & Home Remedy's
11. Natural Health & Wellness
12. Obituaries
13. Poetry
14. Genealogy
15. FAQ - Using the board
16. Upcoming Calendar
17. Forum Stats
18. Users Online

I think if you check out the Elk County Forum Statics Center at http://www.cascity.com/howard/forum/index.php?action=stats
I believe you will find that this forum is well used.

And under Forum Stats it says there are  "219106 Posts in 15264 Topics"

It is my opinion that this is the best forum I have ever came across, it is put together in a much better and organixed fashion than other forums I have visited.

Excellent job Teresa and Kjell, Thank you ever so much.

A TERRIFIC FORUM IF I DO SAY SO MYSELF!
THANKS A LOT

Wilma

Thank you, Ross, for pointing out the reasons that I joined this Forum some ten years ago and am still an active member.  But it does not explain why so many of our members have stopped posting within the past five years, including the two people who are responsible for creating the Forum.

Perhaps if we knew the reason that they are no longer active, these people that made the Forum so interesting back then, we could entice them back by ceasing with whatever it is that has made them lose their interest.

Being attacked on one thread every time one posts tends to influence one's interest in other threads, especially when people are sometimes attacked in those threads too. Especially when one in particular thinks he has the "privilege" of evaluating people's posts and moving them where he wants them to be. That is wrong! He has a huge ego and has elevated himself to a position he does not hold.

Diane, let it go, that is all in the Past. I feel the same way you do but that is over, that was yesterday, this is a New day, and there are lots of new things to Discuss. Look at the Scholarships offered to Young Isaiahh Loudermilk. Wilma and I exchange Posts often and I really enjoy Communicating with Her. Move on, why don't you start a Thread about the Vice President, he is a Favorite Son from your State, and I know you are really Proud of Him.

Wilma contrary to what Diane insinuates I meant no harm.

I find the form very full of information.

but like everything else in the world things change.

I too am on Facebook, but i limit m friendshps to relatives. I am in touch with many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and cousins etc. I enjoy hearing the stories and watching my many great-great nieces and nephews from birth as they grow up.

They are spread across the country from Florida to Texas to Washington state to Hawaii and places in between sometimes over seas. Sometimes I lose contact for a month or two because they relocate and it takes time to get settled into a new job and new living conditions but eventually we reconnect.

I have lost friends when they have deceased . Things just keep changing. And hardly in thing these days is all local. But thank God the internet gives the opportunity to stay in touch in a very nice way.

But i still appreciate this Local forum, and this forum even has people in many states as well.

It is a beautiful day in Elk County and I have been out side really enjoying it. My fingers are not freezing off while do my work and chores. I gotta get back out there now and spend some time with my dogs.

Have a great after noon Wilma.

Diane is right in that being attacked on one thread discourages you from participating on another.  I no longer read anything in Politics.  Not because I am not interested in politics, but because the posts are so virulent that they upset me.  I do not need upsetting incidents.  At my age and in my condition, I need pleasant incidents, so I avoid anything that has proven unpleasant.

For quite some time I also avoided posting, even though, in my opinion, I had very interesting opinions that should be shared.  But now, I have decided that I am going to go ahead and participate in things that I enjoy.  I will continue to stay out of the politics, even though I would like to know what people think about this and that.  In my humble opinion, not all Republicans are right and not all Democrats are wrong, so why get upset over some body else's opinion.  Wouldn't it be nice if they could present their opinion in a friendly manner without trying to destroy someone else's opinion?  Be they right or be they wrong, they have the right to post without having to defend their position every time they express it.  I wonder why some people feel as if they have to prove that their's is the only right opinion, that everybody else needs to be converted to their way of thinking.

I think that the reason the Forum used to be a nice place to be is because we all accepted whatever was posted and let it be.  We might have made fun of it, but we all knew it was just in fun.

I appreciate your position in life and you opinion for your direction.

I am no spring chicken and feel very greatful to be alive. I just never saw myself growing this old.
I have had three near death experiences but I guess the good lord wan't ready for me, nor was the devil.

I am personally concerned for the direction of our country and the education of our children.
And presently nothing looks that good to me.And there is many other things affecting our nation that concern me as a patriot and a vietnam vetertan. I'm not concerned for me but for the generations that follow us.

So, I stick mainly in the political threads.. Education is definitly a political subject.

My adopted son just turned 18 and I am proud of him and his education at Elk Valley has progressed nicely.
I held him bac in the sixth grade because he failed but the teadher passed him any way because of "No Child Left Behind". Today  "No Child Left Behind" no longer exist.   Elk Valley worked with me and I with them. I was probably considered a regular fixture at the school because I spent so much time there. I sat in class rooms and various other things. I never interfered with the teachers but I asked them what I could do to help. Of course I'm not talking in the class room but agter class.

And he now makes A's, B's and C's. Last year he made the honor roll.

Nest year I will be helping my son acquire scholarships, I feel it is my responsibility to help him.

Yes, I'm concerned and probably always will be.

You see adopted my son was mentally and physically abused his first three years of life and it made things very difficult for him. But he is doing great these days.
