Carlton C. "Carty" Hopper, 80, of Burden, Kansas, passed away October 10, 2014 at Via Christi St. Francis Hopital in Wichita, Kansas.  Born January 22, 1934 in Moline, Kansas, Carty was the son of Joseph Alvin and Helen Aldora (Miller) Hopper.

Carty was raised in rural Grenola, Kansas and graduated from Grenola High School.  He then attended junior college in Coffeyville, Kansas.  He was united in marriage to Delores Hurley.  To this union, three children were born.  The couple later divorced. 

Carty was a well-traveled mechanic, carpenter, and farmer.  He owned and operated Hopper's Auto Sales and Service and H&M Dozer Service.  He enjoyed flying airplanes, elk hunting, and going to Colorado and Osh Kosh, Wisconsin for the World Air Show with his good friend, David.

His family includes his son, Mike Hopper and wife, Rose of Burden, Kansas; his daughter, Carleta Bolack of Winfield, Kansas; his brothers, David Hopper and wife, Doretta of Winfield, Kansas and Richard Hopper of Oxford, Kansas; his long-time friend, Marcia Powell of Winfield, Kansas; his grandchildren, Veronica Childs, Nathan and Alex Bolack, and Rebecca, Georganna, and Carlton "Joe" Hopper; and his great-grandchildren, Xavier and Daphne Childs.  Carty was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son.

Graveside funeral services were held on October 13, 2014 at Greenlawn Cemetery in Grenola, Kansas.  A memorial has been established in Mr. Hopper's name for the Burden Volunteer Fire Department.  Contributions may be made through the Miles Funeral Service, 4001 E. 9th Avenue, Winfield, Kansas 67156, which is in charge of arrangements.
