Leonard Lee Dewey, age 87, of Independence, Kansas, passed away on September 5, 2014 at Medicalodges of Independence.  He was born on January 12, 1927 to William and Sallie (Howell) Dewey in rural Longton, Kansas.

Lee attended and graduated from Longton schools.  He had worked at the Garage in Longton for five years and then at Elk Valley Alfalfa Mills for several years.  On August 18, 1948, he was united in marriage to Mary Ilene Burch.  He moved to Independence, Kansas in 1952 where he worked for Sherwood Construction Company, the City of Independence, and at Mt. Hope Cemetery, retiring as Sexton.

Leonard is survived by a son, Larry Gene Dewey; a niece, Sallie Dewey; and a nephew, Bill.  He is preceded in death by his wife and his parents.

Graveside services were held on September 8, 2014 at the Longton Cemetery in Longton, Kansas with Pastor Mike Hughes officiating.  Services were entrusted to Webb & Rodrick Chapel and Crematory of Independence, Kansas.
