Jon David "Dave" Book, 65, of Brandon Florida and formerly of Moline, Kansas and Pekin, Illinois, passed away July 22, 2014 at his home with his family by his side.  Dave was born January 20, 1949 in Winfield, Kansas to Fred J. and Norma June (Horn) Book.

David grew up in Moline, Kansas and graduated from Moline High School in 1967.  He married Lois J. Weinstein of Groveland, Illinois on October 12, 1975 in Pekin, Illinois.  Throughout his life, he accomplished many things.  He received his degree in botany from Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas.  He went to DuPage Horticulture Schools for a certification in horticulture management.

Dave taught vocational horticulture in West Chicago High School and then at the Pekin Area Vocational Center.  He was the horticulturist for the Pekin Park District and designed flower shows.  He left teaching to be a manger for the George J. Ball Company in West Chicago, Illinois.  From mum production, he went into the medical field as a nurse's aide and studied at Aurora College for his Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.  He moved from patient care to hospital yards and grounds to facilities and engineering at Provena Mercy Center in Aurora, Illinois, Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, Illinois, Copley Memorial Hospital in Aurora, Illinois, and St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, Illinois.  He served as business manager for A.C. Crane Company in Joliet, Illinois prior to becoming disabled. 

Dave loved and was loved by his family and friends, but above all, he was a good Christian man who walked in the way of the Lord and loved to teach and disciple others in their Christian walk.

Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Lois; their three children, James, Anna, and Becky; a son-in-law and daughter-in-law, Jason and Christina; his mother, Norma June; and his sister, Carol.  He was preceded in death by his father.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 1, 2014 at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton, Illinois with Pastor Ralph Bauer officiating.  Burial will be at the Zion Evangelical United Methodist Church Cemetery in rural Pekin, Illinois.  Memorials may be made to Moody Radio in care of Moody Global Ministries, 820 N.
