Betty Evelyn Austin, age 93, of Fredonia, Kansas, died Friday, January 31, 2014 at her home.  Betty was born on March 24, 1920 in Wichita, Kansas, the daughter of Oliver Emerson and Lona Colleen (Brown) Rogers.

Betty was a graduate of Mt. Hope High School Class of 1938.  On April 20, 1939 in Andover, Kansas, she married Neil Austin.  Betty and Neil were married for 57 years until his death in 1996.  Betty and Neil farmed and ranched around the Eureka and Severy, Kansas area for many years.  They then retired to the Independence, Kansas area.  After Neil's death, she moved to Fredonia, Kansas.

Betty worked alongside Neil on the farms and ranch while raising their children.  They also owned and operated restaurants in the Severy area.  Betty enjoyed working in their garden and making all of their meals from items raised on their farm.  She enjoyed taking cattle to the American Royal Shows with her husband and attending rodeos.  She enjoyed watching NASCAR and watching the Gaithers on the Gospel Channel.  She was known for always having cinnamon rolls and tapioca pudding ready for treats for her kids.  Betty enjoyed going to the Stockyards on Sale Day and having lunch there.  Most of all, Betty enjoyed being with her family.

Betty is survived by six children, Shirley Posch of Fredonia, Kansas, Evelyn Driskel of Cherryvale, Kansas, Wayne Austin of Potwin, Kansas, Dale Austin of El Dorado, Kansas, Karen Brown of Edge Water, Florida, and Eldon Austin, of Eureka, Kansas; and 22 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Neil; her brother, Malvern L. Rogers; and four grandchildren, Rita Campbell, Harold Posch, Dean Austin, and Christopher Austin.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Countryside Funeral Home in Fredonia, Kansas with Pastor David Cavaness of the New Life Praise and Worship Church of Cherryvale, Kansas.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service time.  Burial will follow the services at Southlawn Cemetery in Severy, Kansas.  Memorials have been suggested to Adopt-A-Family or Macular Degeneration and may be left with or sent to the funeral home.  Online condolences may be left at www.countrysidefh.com.  Services are entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home, 420 S. 20th Street, Fredonia, Kansas 66736.
