Ready, perhaps you have been looking in the wrong places. watch Chicago Fire and you might find ''studs'' in all kinds of places, even some using infrared cameras.

I DO watch 'Chicago Fire" faithfully, and I am liking Mouch alot!  lol
I would think that the PD could use them for isolating the perp that is standing off in a building.
I think Science Fiction writers have been using them for years.  I am not so sure I agree with hunting.  It's seems unfair to the challenge.
  Just like everything:  for every good purpose, there are those that will try to use it for not so good purposes.

PD here does use them to a limited extent, often from the state police helocopter. For some reason they are more likely to use them outside than in buildings. I heard one just recently where they had flushed out a perp who then ran back into thick woods near the refinery. He was found  by the infrared overhead camera and then the ground troopers yelled that they were about to send in the dog...he came out.
