Tell us some more about yourself.

Do you have a high school diploma?

Ross, it never crossed my mind that you were talking about me. Why should you? Leave my name out please.
Of course it isn't all about college alone.
Try rereading what you wrote and find your own errors, especially spelling.Ya make my teeth ache.
It is hardly new that some teachers have to deal with squally parents who show up at school whining to get grade increases for kids who haven't earned them. Some teachers and some administrators will cave in and shove the kids on for others to have to suffer with. That doesn't help the kids at all, but stops the parents from being a daily problem when they would be better off managing their own children and doing some real parenting.True of all? Certainly not, but it's enough to fuel articles, especially about the inner city poor and minorities.
This is especially true with kids who think it's cute to cut classes over and over and refuse to do homework or make up assignments. Their parents never show up for conferences, but show up to whine about their kid's grades after its too late to do anything about it. Those kinds of kids don't care if they are prepared for anything after school or not because they live in the minute...and are very immature. Then when they find out how tough it really is out there, they start lining up all the excuses for why they are not to blame for their failures. They need to have their butts kicked.
The other problem is for very bright kids who found high school much too easy and then got slammed when they found out how much harder college is. If they never studied or learned how to manage their time, they can be sadly ill prepared for college pressures and temptations. College isn't for everyone and shouldn't have to be. Sour grapes after the fact is very immature.

Ross, it is an interesting question that needs no explanation other than a simple "yes" or a "no."

There is no controversy here. You have already made this thread about yourself. Read how many times you have said the word "I." So there should be no reason not to answer.

Were you a high school dropout who found a new life in the Navy?

I told you when you answer a few very simple questions, I may respond in kind!
Changing threads to ask changes nothing.

You lose.

No Diane I wasn't talking about you!
You were!
You were making it all about Diane.

This is another problem you have always trying to correct other peoples spelling when you make plenty of errors yourself. Just because you were a teacher does not give you the right to harrass people in this manner. And you have been told plenty of times about it. Remember your constant failing to hit the space bar at the end of sentences. You are still failing at it.

And notice how you make everything controversial with your attacks.

It is hardly new that some teachers have to deal with squally parents who show up at school whining to get grade increases for kids who haven't earned them.

It is hardly new that teachers like to blame the parents for failing to teach and take command pf the class room. I have set in on class rooms where the teacher was worse than the kids. So what is new.

Some teachers and some administrators will cave in and shove the kids on for others to have to suffer with. [/quote]

That is called, "No Child Left Behind".

The West Elk School District failed to teach my son in the sixth grade and were going to pass him anyway.
The foolish justification was kids that are held back drop out.

When I enrolled him the next year, I made it very clear that he would stay in the sixth grade. They thought they were the parent and put him in the seventh grade.

I pulled him out of that school and enrolled him in another district in the sixth grade. That school district worked hand in hand with me, they had and still have an excellent attitude towards me and my son. the other school lacked those qualities. My son has been getting A's in Algebra 2  and good grades in other classes. That School Superintendent was eventually terminated. I don't know if they gave him the opportunity to quit or be fired like has happened with several employees at the school.

I have informed you of lots of experience with good and bad teachers and good and bad Administrators. So get off the parents back for your teachers inabilities in the class room. Not everything is the parents faults, which is the major point made by teachers every time the subject of performace comes up. That is a teachers crutch!

The major object of the story, as I read it is even the kids say they need higher academic standards! That would mean more teaching in the class room for the teachers wouldn't it.

None of which addresses higher academic standards!
But it sure changes the subject to pity the poor teacher, doesn't it.

Oh yea, Sour Grapes as an excuse for not receiving higher academic standards!

Just don't address the educational standards, blame the kids.

But it sure changes the subject to pity the poor teacher, doesn't it.

Once again he's making it about me.
My spelling, my typing, my goodness! See that infatuation? :-* :-* :-* Nobody must ever have a different view. His experiences are the only ones that matter and everyone's experiences must be just like his.
Nope, sorry Charlie. You are outside looking in. I don't care how many classes you "set" in or how many eggs you laid. You are totally unqualified to critique all schools, all teachers, all grades and all subjects. Somebody managed to teach you a little bit, but I gather you decided you knew more than the school did and left. That's why you are homeschooling your own "son." You apparently had very bad school memories that you don't want him to have. How noble of you. You'd do better to admit that all situations are different and no one program or method works with all. The pendulum with parents ,teachers and education swings all the time.
Your own son doesn't have much longer to go before he can quit. I wonder what will become of him. Finish school? According to you that "piece of paper" is worth nothing. Military?  AHA! Grab that free taxpayer paid eduation! More schooling? Why? According to you he probably won't be ready to do anything right out of high school.

No dearie you made it about you, with your very own post blaming kids and blaming parents for lack of decent educational standards and your inability to take command in a class room full of kids.

No originality from you is there? I do believe I said, you have an infatuation with me because you closely follow my every post. And that is the truth or you would not be using my words against me. Try again.

No Diane far from it! That's exactly why I said, leave the thread alone. Because of your silly biases against parents and kids. And because you think organizations can do no wrong.

There is that cheap shot, again about being an outsider!
But wise up lady an outsider can see much clearer than a person smothered inside.
I have never tried to critique all schools.
However, I do believe because of your bad experiences as a teacher that makes you think you are an expert on education. Well you are wrong, much more wrong than myself.

I have no idea what this is even suggesting. Very poor communication for a teacher.

Why do you make up these LIE's ?
I do not home school!
I have never ever, even thought of home schooling.

You are such a sorry ass rude bitch!

No, I won't be civil with that nasty attitude.

Where is the civility in trashing my son.

You even just trashed Veterans.

Was this your attitude while teaching?

I said many times on your posts,I was glad you were never my childs teacher and I mean that more today, more than ever before.

You preach civility but have no clue what it means.

Your degree sure is failing you.

How often are you going to post this? Ya have to take two shots at me? That's really funny.  You..Be Civil? HA!
See how untruths hurt? See what it's like to be on the receiving end? Not fun is it? Now just try to prove them wrong. A dose of your own medicine, as one might say.
Hmmm, maybe you're too cheap to pay for private school, so ya sit in the shadows attacking public schools? ... from your own very narrow viewpoint. Nah, that's probably not true either.
We all know you can have no idea how good a teacher I was, and I truly don't care what pouty comments you make about my teaching career. You have no basis, which makes it all very funny. My posts here have nothing to do with any of the rest of my life. So judge away, I don't care and it doesn't matter. After all these years I know the real score and who is trustworthy and who isn't.
In my day kids had to show up to school to learn. Even that isn't true any longer. There are so many alternative ways to learn there is no excuse for any child to enter the adult world unprepared. Whether you like it or not, disengaged parents ARE to blame for many kids' educational failures. It takes an exceptional child to overcome that handicap and some do. As I have said enough times to make it boring, there are some bad teachers just as there are bad everything else. So? One works around it. No child always has the same teacher over and over, but they have the same parents year after year. The best combination is to have good parents and good teachers.
You didn't have to brag about your son's grades.  I hope he has a nicer personality and lots of friends.

Well, then, the assumption would be that you are probably a high school dropout. That would seem to match your rhetoric on this forum although grade school dropout might be more appropriate to your writing style.

You mentioned, "You lose." But isn't it you who is the loser?

Gray, you haven't won anything.  The assumption is that you been in government schooling.  You're the one who has accepted liberalism/socialism and you're pretty staunch about it.

As for Ross, he's the conservative one, not you.
