Sylvia Dewey-Muse, 101, retired Director of Patient Relations at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas, died October 27, 2012. Sylvia was born February 14, 1911, at Hesston, Kansas, the daughter of Henry and Harriet Grabill.  

She attended Hesston schools and received her B.A. Degree from the University of Wichita, now Wichita State University, in Wichita, Kansas.  In 1929, she married Reverend Raymond E. Dewey, and they served United Methodist churches or institutions for almost forty years until his death in 1969. After his death, she became the Director of Patient Relations at Wesley Medical Center. She later served United Methodist Youthville, Newton, Kansas, as public relations consultant during a state-wide financial campaign. When that was completed, she became a member of the staff of the First United Methodist Church, Wichita, in the church caring ministry.

In 1979, she married J. Kenneth Muse of Marion, Kansas and became a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and later great-great grandmother to a wonderful family. They and her nieces and nephews and their families brought blessings to her in so many different ways. After Kenneth's death in 1990, she moved to Larksfield Place in Wichita, Kansas, where she has since resided.

Sylvia is survived by a stepson and wife, Charles and Anne Muse of Topeka, Kansas;  stepdaughter, Jean Hein of Winfield, Kansas; step-grandchildren and spouses:, Barbara and Eric King of Lawrence, Kansas,  Mary Jo and Dr. Steven Rohr of Wichita, Kansas, Douglas and Dale Hein of Mulvane, Kansas,  Marilyn and Bradley Short of St. Louis, Missouri, and Dr. Roger and Donna Muse of San Antonio, Texas;  many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; a nephew and nieces,  Dale White of Hesston, Kansas,  Enola Dreier of Hesston, Kansas, and Ruth Grabill of Topeka, Kansas; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.  Her parents and five siblings preceded her in death.  She was also preceded in death by a step-son-in-law, Allen Hein, and many nieces and nephews.

Sylvia is a member of the University United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be held Friday, November 2, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at University United Methodist Church. Her Stepson, Charles Muse and his wife Anne, lived in Howard.  Charles taught music at Howard High, I think in 1956 and 1957.  Anne taught Business Classes at Severy during the same period.
