Richard Jay "Diesel" Dory, Sr., age 70, a resident of Grenola, Kansas, passed away Sunday, October 28, 2012 at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita, Kansas.  He was born July 20, 1942 in Grenola, Kansas, the son of Ronard and Stella (Hull) Dory.

During the Vietnam War, Richard served his country in the United States Navy.  On July 1, 1963, he was united in marriage to Sharon Youngs in Clackamas, Oregon.  He worked as an auto mechanic for Lumbert Auto Sales in Winfield, Kansas and Hopper's Auto in Burden, Kansas.  Richard was a member of the American Legion. Ferguson-Spease Post #388 in Moline, Kansas and the VFW.  Richard enjoyed hunting, fishing, loved being with his family, and was a passionate Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

Richard is survived by his wife, Sharon Dory of Grenola, Kansas; one son, Rick Dory of Cambridge, Kansas; two daughters, Kathy Hart of Longton, Kansas and Charlene Baker of Wichita, Kansas; one brother, Kevin Dory of Rock, Kansas; three sisters, Lela Tiger of Winfield, Kansas, Karen Beshears of Howard, Kansas, and Charlotte Dory of Grenola, Kansas; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one step-great-grandchild.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ronard Dory, Jr.

Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery in Grenola, Kansas at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 2, 2012.  Family suggests contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or American Heart Association and may be left with the funeral home.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.countrysidefh.com  Arrangements are under the direction of Countryside-Zimmerman Funeral Home, 206 E.
