Report: Syrian Islamist Rebels Behead Two Christians, Including A Priest

Two Christians, one of them a priest, have been beheaded by militants because they were suspected of cooperating with the Syrian military, according to an Al-Alam report.

A video uploaded to the internet yesterday shows two men with their hands bound, surrounded by dozens of people, many of them armed and cheering in celebration.

The two are brutally executed – beheaded with a small combat knife. Echoing previous beheading recorded by insurgents, the head is held up to the cheers of onlookers and then placed on the body.

This month has seen an escalation in sectarian atrocities committed by insurgents, who have been publicly armed and supported by America, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey and other actors. Indeed, the atrocities are coinciding with further arms transfers – with new advanced weaponry witnessed in the hands of militants in the past number of weeks.

The most recent beheading recorded on video and uploaded to the internet, reportedly took place in Idlib countryside.

Obuma to unveil climate change plan

The plan will include brand new federal regulations to limit carbon emissions from existing power plants, a move that faced stringent opposition from energy producers and Republican leaders.

It also opens the door for more renewable sources, including wind, solar and hydropower energy, to be placed on public lands. And an $8 billion federal loan aims to encourage further research and innovation into clean sources of energy.

Obama's action will raise efficiency standards for federal buildings to lower carbon pollution by at least 3 billion metric tons, about half the annual pollution from the energy sector, by 2030, and further improve fuel economy of new cars.

The plan also attempts to take preemptive action to prepare for more frequent severe weather in hurricane-prone regions and for farmers facing droughts and wildfires.

Finally, the action includes a renewed push to encourage international cooperation on raising clean energy standards, particularly with China and India.

While scientists for years have agreed that human factors have contributed to shifts in global weather patterns, efforts to put policy changes in place have been stonewalled by political deadlock.

The president's plan will side-step Congress and issue an executive order to reduce carbon emissions and prepare for the effects of climate change.

Fifty Years Ago Kennedy Came To Berlin

Kennedy finished his famous speech in front of West Berlin's city hall in the Schöneberg district with these poignant words: "All free men, wherever they may live, are citizens of Berlin, and, therefore, as a free man, I take pride in the words 'Ich bin ein Berliner'." The massive crowds in the square and the surrounding streets broke into deafening cheers.

"Ich bin ein berliner" said Kennedy and the reaction of Germans was immediate and long lasting.  They are moved by it even today.  It is a quotation from a June 26, 1963, speech by U.S. President John F. Kennedy in West Berlin.

"All free men, wherever they may live, are citizens of Berlin," Kennedy's voice booms from the Museum speaker in his thick Boston accent.  The speech plays in a continuous loop on a large screen.  Many who witnessed the president's visit come to the museum to relive the historical experience.  "They often sit in the film room with tears in their eyes," says Heinze. "I've seen the speech countless times, but it still gives me goose bumps every time."

The Catholic media is up in arms over comments President Obama made during a speech while in Northern Ireland for the G8 summit. Obama made what is described as "an alarming call for an end to Catholic education," in spite of the fact that it is considered "a critical component of the Church." In front of an audience of about 2,000 young people, including many Catholics, Obama claimed that Catholic education divides people and blocks peace, according to the Scottish Catholic Observer:

Ironically, President Obama made his comments just as Archbishop Gerhard Müller, the prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, told a crowd in Scotland that religious education upholds the dignity of the human person. Archbishop Müller said that Catholic schools should promote "all that is good in the philosophies of societies and human culture."

Fr. John Zuhlsdorf quoted the Observer's article on Fr. Z's blog and added:

Another example of what this man wants: total isolation of any religious values in the private sphere alone. Pres. Obama is working either to intimidate or legislate or even TAX religious freedom out of the public square.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of a foreign visit to a Islamic nation where he told people on his arrival that they shouldn't have madrasas. Can you?

Did he when visiting, say, Israel, say "You Jews shouldn't have synagogue schools and you muslims shouldn't have mosque schools." I can't remember. Did he?

Each of the articles drew numerous public comments, most suggesting that Obama be more concerned about the public schools in the United States than their parochial schools, which are working just fine.

UPDATE: On Michael Hastings Death

DISCREPANCY, WATCH: Alleged Video Of Hastings Blowing Red Light Shows A Car Heading South, But Evidence And Eyewitness Prove Hastings Was Heading North

The first video below is supposedly of Hastings running the Santa Monica Boulevard red light, SOUTHBOUND on Highland Ave., heading towards Melrose, seconds to maybe a couple minutes before the crash, according to the video and the LA Weekly article below. However, the witness in the video above, who saw the impact and the moments leading up to it, says Hastings had just crossed Melrose when he crashed, which means he was heading NORTHBOUND, TOWARD Santa Monica, not away from it, as the accident happened about 50 meters NORTH of Melrose. Did he U-Turn after passing both the Santa Monica and Melrose intersections, or is the SOUTHBOUND car blowing through the red light in the video not Hastings's car? And if it is, what the hell is this guy doing driving 100+ miles an hour on streets like this, making crazy, backtracking U-turns? This was his turf, and these are very well-known, major streets that everyone in this area drives regularly (I know first-hand), so he certainly wasn't lost. It's one thing to be going 100 miles an hour because you're in a rush to get home, but it's another thing to be throwing in perhaps hair-raising U-turns for shits and giggles. It just doesn't add up very well.

The photographic evidence clearly backs up the witness's claim that Hastings was going north. The photo above is facing north, and the ass-end of the car is pointing east, exactly as it would be had he been going north and cut or veered hard left into the median. Had he been coming south (opposite side of the median and opposite direction) and cut or veered hard left into the median, the ass-end would obviously be facing west, the opposite direction.

This photo also very clearly demonstrates that he was heading north, toward Santa Monica Boulevard not away from it, at the time of the crash. The photo is taken facing west and slightly south, with the ass-end of the car pointing east, exactly as it would be had he been heading north and cut or veered hard left into the median. So again, either the southbound car running the red light in the video isn't Hastings, or he blasted down Highland past Melrose, made a U-turn, and started blasting back up north again, re-covering his tracks. Not exactly a travel plan. Oh, and in Hastings's 2012 book 'The Operators: The Wild and Terrifying Inside Story of America's War in Afghanistan' he said he didn't drink and hadn't had one in 10 years.

Weekly: After the Weekly reported today that LAPD traffic investigators believe the car tied in reports to journalist Michael Hastings was going faster than 60 miles per hour before a fatal crash in Hollywood, we were tipped off to new video showing a vehicle blasting through a red light just moments before that collision.

The video, by freelance TV news crew LOUD LABS NEWS, shows a vehicle blazing through a red light on Highland Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard, only four blocks from the crash:

The video appears to have been taken from a LOUD LABS vehicle awaiting the night's news.

Freelance videographers work the night shift in L.A. because local TV stations don't budget enough for expensive, three-person news vans to work overnight. The freelance crews listen to police scanners and sell their footage to the stations.

In this case, the LOUD NEWS videographer appears to be in standby mode, with a camera rolling, when a car blasts through that light.

Soon after, multiple reports are heard on an LAPD frequency regarding an "ambulance traffic" accident at Highland and Melrose avenues only a few blocks south.

Michael Hastings May Have Been Killed In 'Car Cyber Attack'

The peculiar circumstances of journalist Michael Hastings' death in Los Angeles last week have unleashed a wave of conspiracy theories.

Now there's another theory to contribute to the paranoia: According to a prominent security analyst, technology exists that could've allowed someone to hack his car. Former U.S. National Coordinator for Security, Infrastructure Protection, and Counter-terrorism Richard Clarke told The Huffington Post that what is known about the single-vehicle crash is "consistent with a car cyber attack."

Clarke said, "There is reason to believe that intelligence agencies for major powers" — including the United States — know how to remotely seize control of a car.

"What has been revealed as a result of some research at universities is that it's relatively easy to hack your way into the control system of a car, and to do such things as cause acceleration when the driver doesn't want acceleration, to throw on the brakes when the driver doesn't want the brakes on, to launch an air bag," Clarke told The Huffington Post. "You can do some really highly destructive things now, through hacking a car, and it's not that hard."

"So if there were a cyber attack on the car — and I'm not saying there was," Clarke added, "I think whoever did it would probably get away with it."

Authorities have said that it may take weeks to determine a cause of death for Hastings, but that no foul play is suspected.

Hastings was driving a 2013 Mercedes C250 coupe when he crashed into a tree on Highland Ave. in Los Angeles at approximately 4:30 am on June 18. Video posted online showed the car in flames, and one neighbor told a local news crew she heard a sound like an explosion. Another eyewitness said the car's engine had been thrown 50 to 60 yards from the car. There were no other vehicles involved in the accident.The fire was so all-consuming that it took the Los Angeles County coroner's office two days to identify Hastings' body, but Clarke said a cyber attack on the vehicle would have been nearly impossible to trace "even if the dozen or so computers on board hadn't melted."

Hastings practiced a brand of no-holds-barred journalism that tended to anger powerful people. His 2010 profile of Gen. Stanley McChrystal, published in Rolling Stone, was so damaging that it ostensibly prompted President Barack Obama to fire the general (the president denied that the article had a role in his decision).

In the days before his death, Hastings was reportedly working on a story about a lawsuit filed by Jill Kelley, who was involved in the scandal that brought down Gen. David Petraeus, according to the LA Times. KTLA reported that Hastings told colleagues at the news site BuzzFeed that he feared the FBI was investigating him. On June 20, the FBI denied that any investigation was under way.

"I believe the FBI when they say they weren't investigating him," said Clarke. "That was very unusual, and I'm sure they checked very carefully before they said that."

Clarke worked for the State Department under President Ronald Reagan and headed up counterterrorism efforts under Presidents George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. He also served as a special adviser on cyberterrorism to the younger Bush and published a book on the topic, Cyber War, in 2010.

"I'm not a conspiracy guy. In fact, I've spent most of my life knocking down conspiracy theories," said Clarke, who ran afoul of the second Bush administration when he criticized the decision to invade Iraq after 9/11. "But my rule has always been you don't knock down a conspiracy theory until you can prove it [wrong]. And in the case of Michael Hastings, what evidence is available publicly is consistent with a car cyber attack. And the problem with that is you can't prove it."

Clarke said the Los Angeles Police Department likely wouldn't have the expertise to trace such an attack. "I think you'd probably need the very best of the U.S. government intelligence or law enforcement officials to discover it."

Gallup Poll: Only 34% Think Obamacare Will Make U.S. Health Care "Better"

A broad cross-section of Americans expect Obamacare to have a negative impact on their lives, according to a just-released Gallup Poll.

Only 22% of those surveyed believe that the health-care law will make their family's health situation "better" in the long run.  By contrast, 42% believe that it will make their family's health-care situation "worse." Meanwhile, 33% believe that it will "not make much difference." 3% expressed "no opinion."

72% of Republicans, 43% of Independents and 16% of Democrats believe Obamacare will make their family health situation "worse."

Americans are more divided on their opinion about the health care law's impact on the nation as a whole.  Only 34% believe that Obamacare will be "better" for health care in the US, while 47% believe it will be "worse."

Pg 167, lines 18-23 any individual who is self-employed and does not have health insurance will be taxed 2.5% of income and forced to accept public health insurance. So paying for health care out of pocket will be banned from the face of the earth.

PG 65, sec 164 provides for a political payoff from the Democrats and Obama; a special subsidized plan for retirees and their families in unions community groups like ACORN.
PG 102, lines 12-18 mandates that all Medicaid eligible will be automatically enrolled in Medicaid based upon income and insurance status. No choice.
Pg 124, lines 24-25 states that no private company or individual can have the right to sue the federal government for medical price fixing, basically eliminating your right to seek redress in the courts regarding your medical care.
Pg 469 mandates "Community Based Home Medical Services" through non profits like ACORN. Happy yet that we elected a community organizer to the White House?


•For those afraid of healthcare rationing:
PG 85, line 7 provides specifics for benefit levels for all health plans, giving government the right to ration everyone's healthcare.
Pg 239, line 14-24 mandates that available physician services will be reduced for Medicaid recipients. Many poor people including many seniors will be affected.
PG 272, Sec. 1145 regulates the operation of certain types of cancer hospitals, again rationing the care of cancer patients.


•For those concerned with the costs of this plan:

PG 91, lines 4-7 mandates that doctor's offices, clinics and hospitals provide language-appropriate services, basically ordering them to hire translators at the expense of the American taxpayer.
Pg 95, lines 8-18 allows the government to hire non-profit community groups like ACORN and Americorps to sign up people for the government health plan.
Pg 170, lines 1-3 exempts non-resident aliens from the individual health care taxes, so Americans citizens will pay for these aliens, legal and illegal alike.
PG 489, Sec 1308 force taxpayers to pay for Marriage & Family therapy under the public insurance plan.


•For those concerned with the damage this plan will do to the medical profession:
Pg 127, lines 1-16 dictates doctors' payment and therefore income which will reduce what doctors earn and lead to greater shortages of doctors and more rationing of care.
Pg 150, lines 9-13 mandates that employers with an annual payroll between $251K & $400K who does not pay to enroll employees in public insurance option will pay a 2-6% tax on all payroll.
Pg 241, line 6-8 mandates that all doctors receive the same pay, regardless of specialty. This will vastly reduce the number of specialists available in the United States, a common problem where medicine is socialized like Canada.
PG 253, line 10-18 allows the federal government to set the value of doctor's time, professional judgment.
PG 265, Sec 1131 mandates and controls the productivity of all health care providers including surgeons!
Page 280, Sec 1151 allows the government to penalize hospitals for what is deemed to be preventable readmissions. So instead of being sued for malpractice, the government will be the punitive body when mistakes are made.
Pg 298, lines 9-11 mandates that if a doctor treats a patient during initial admission and that result in a re-admission, the doctor will be subject to federal penalties. Gee do you think that's going to drive up the cost of malpractice?
Pg 317, lines 13-20 will create prohibitions on ownership and investment in the health service industry for doctors.
Pg 317-318, lines 21-25, and 1-3 will prohibit the expansion of all hospitals.
pg 321, lines 2-13 allows hospitals apply for an exception to the expansion rule but they must seek community input first!
Pg335, lines 16-25, Pg 336-339 mandates the establishment of outcome based health care and insidious idea that actually limits the treatment choices made by patients with their doctors, based upon the patient's health and condition. This will result in the oldest, weakest and sickest patients being denied treatments simply because the statistics for success in their demographic category are poor! This is a form of health care rationing that will save money at the expense of seniors to help buy insurance for the uninsured, most of whom are young and healthy!
Pg 341, lines 3-9 allows the government to disqualify Medicare Advantage Plans and HMO forcing people into the government run public plan.



•For those concerned with violations of individual rights violations in this plan:

Pg 195 officers & employees of the new Health Care Administration will have access to all Americans personal financial records and accounts.
PG 203, line 14-15 actually says that "The tax imposed under this section shall not be treated as tax." Yes, it says that.
PG 268, Sec 1141 regulates the rental & purchase of power driven wheelchairs.
Pg 379, Sec 1191 mandates the creation of even more bureaucracy in the Telehealth Advisory Committee.
PG 425, lines 4-12 mandates "Advance Care Planning Consultation," another insidious vehicle to save money by encouraging seniors who are in poor health to be more accepting of death rather than fighting to stay alive and healthy and with their loved ones.
Pg 425, lines 17-19 mandates that all senior patients will be consulted regarding living wills, durable powers of attorney.
PG 425, lines 22-25, 426 lines 1-3 provides an approved list of end of life resources, to help guide seniors about the process of dying!
PG 427, lines 15 mandates program for orders on the end of life, actually giving the government a say in how your life ends!
Pg 429, lines 1-9 dictates the frequency with which an Advance Care Planning Consultant will have to meet with patients as their health deteriorates.
PG 429, lines 10-12 give an Advance Care Planning Consultant the power to order end of life plans for a patient.
Pg 354, Sec 1177 will arbitrarily restrict the enrollment of special needs children and adults.
Pg 429, lines 13-25 will only allow certain doctors, not necessarily your own physician, to write an end of life order.
PG 430, lines 11-15 allows the government to decide what level of treatment you will have at end of life.
Pg 494-498 allows government to define mental illnesses and what services will be allowed to treat, again rationing this care.
