Market Forces Dish Network to End Fox News Blackout

Looks like there was more to the Dish Network dropping Fox News for several weeks than an inability of the two sides to agree on a contract. Dish founder and chairman Charles Ergen is a major moonbat who gives heavily to the Democrat Party and pressures others to do the same:

According to Open Secrets, Ergen donated a total of $64,000 to the Democratic Senatorial campaign Committee in 2014.

In the 2014 cycle Ergen gave almost exclusively to Democratic candidates particularly to endangered Senate Democrats including Kay Hagen(NC), Mark Pryor (ARK.), Mark Warner (Va) and Mark Begich (Alaska).

In addition to spending his money exceedingly unwisely:

In 2012, a federal complaint was filed against Ergen in which several company executives alleged that he had intimidated them into making contributions to specific candidates, the majority of which were Democrats.

The claim was filed by an unnamed company insider who accused Ergen of "forcing" Dish Network's Chief Operating Officer Bernard Han to donate to a Democratic Party candidate in the 2009/2010 election cycle.

The complaint also claimed that Han was "encouraged" to attend Democratic functions and fundraisers and that other Dish employees were strong-armed by Ergen in a similar way
.

Dish's move has cost it 90,000 subscribers since the Fox News Channel blackout began, finally forcing it to restore FNC.

This probably won't be the last time Ergen's political preferences take a toll on countermoonbats in the audience. Viewers are advised to ditch Dish and get DirecTV or cable — or better still, use the Internet to choose your own programming.

(Good luck getting the 90,000 subscribers back Ergen, you liberal Clown...)

Anonymous Man Donates $1 Million To Families Of Slain NYPD Cops

(Good to see the continued care for these families who have lost so much...)

Via NY Post:
http://nypost.com/2015/01/16/families-of-slain-cops-receive-anonymous-1-million-donation/

It was a gesture of enormous generosity — and it came from a mystery man 8,000 miles away.

An anonymous entrepreneur from Hong Kong on Friday donated $1 million to the families of slain cops Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos.

"In every tragedy, there are individuals who step forward and step up to the plate, and that's what this story is all about here today," said Michael Palladino, president of the NYPD's detectives union during a ceremony at union headquarters.

Liu's father, Wei Tang Liu, will get $100,000 a year for five years under an agreement facilitated by the Sing Tao Newspaper company, while the other $500,000 will go to an education fund for Ramos' children.

The cops' relatives were each presented with an oversized ceremonial check for $1 million.

Ramos' widow, Maritza, gripped her two teen sons' hands during the event.

Neither she nor Liu's widow, Pei Xia Chen, spoke. But Liu's father, speaking Chinese, later thanked the NYPD and all who supported the families.

Sing Tao CEO Robin Mui said the donor had been moved by the families' plight.

"He's just a wealthy entrepreneur in Hong Kong who doesn't want his name to be published," Mui said.

Meanwhile, active and retired cops will be partying on Staten Island at a benefit for the families Saturday. It starts at 7 p.m. at the Fast Break Basketball Center and will feature live bands and hot dogs. Tickets are $40 a head.

How Lawmakers Get Rich:
Sen. Feinstein's Husband To Make A Billion From Gov't Deal

(Conflict of interest: an archaic term that never applies to politicians and other functionaries of the current US government or members of the MSM.  They SAID that the decision by USPS had NOTHING to do with Feinstein's connctions.  For some reason one would seem suspicious that a servant of the people might take advantage of their position by serreptitiously pushing a billion-dollar deal to their spouse's business.  Meanwhile, the US Postal Service loses its assets in order to pay more in rent.  Little wonder these geniuses continue to hemorrhage money.  Congress should let them die of natural financial causes and let FedEx do what they do best... without union interference.  No wonder California is so screwed up with the likes of DIFI, Boxer, and Brown)

Via NY Post:

Ever wonder how lowly paid lawmakers leave office filthy rich?

Sen. Dianne Feinstein is showing how it's done.

The US Postal Service plans to sell 56 buildings — so it can lease space more expensively — and the real estate company of the California senator's husband, Richard Blum, is set to pocket about $1 billion in commissions.

Blum's company, CBRE, was selected in March 2011 as the sole real estate agent on sales expected to fetch $19 billion. Most voters didn't notice that Blum is a member of CBRE's board and served as chairman from 2001 to 2014.

This feat of federal spousal support was ignored by the media after Feinstein's office said the senator, whose wealth is pegged at $70 million, had nothing to do with the USPS decisions.

When the national debt is $18 trillion, a billion seems like small change.

Øb☭ma To Congress: Back Off Any New Sanctions On Iran

(Lord knows, don't let any sanctions interfere with them finishing their nuclear reactor.  IDIOT!...)

Via Washington Examiner:
http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/obama-hold-off-on-new-iran-sanctions/article/2558786

President Obama told lawmakers, including fellow Democrats, that he would veto a bill imposing new sanctions on Iran, saying there was "no good argument" for increasing penalties on Tehran right now.

"There is no good argument for us to try to undercut, undermine the negotiations, until they've played themselves out," Obama said in a joint news conference Friday with British Prime Minister David Cameron at the White House.

"I will veto a bill that comes to my desk," he added, urging Congress to "hold off" on such actions.

Lawmakers are readying legislation that would place new economic penalties on Iran, as the Obama administration tries to finalize a deal to curtail the country's nuclear program.

Box Office Returns: American Sniper Number One In This Weekend Brings In $29M In First Day

(Clint Eastwood's biggest selling movie to date...)

Via Deadline.com:

American Sniper is huge. So huge that the Clint Eastwood-directed film could, by sunrise, make more in one day than any one of his films ever made in a weekend. Per late night industry estimates, the Warner Bros./Village Roadshow pic looks to gun down $29.1M in its first expanded Friday, within inches of blowing away Eastwood's previous weekend high, 2009's Gran Torino at $29.5M.

Hands down, American Sniper's Friday booty ranks as the highest grossing day ever charted by a film in January – and that goes for an opening (previous record holder was 2008's Cloverfield at $17.16M) and single day (prior was the $25.8M B.O. racked up by Avatar on Jan. 2, 2010).

Jesse Jackson: Rename Tillman Hall At Clemson University

(Jesse out race baiting to remain relevant...)

Via The State:
http://www.thestate.com/2015/01/17/3933752_jesse-jackson-rename-tillman-hall.html?sp=/99/205/&rh=1

Clemson University should rename Tillman Hall, a building that honors a "racist" who advocated brutality against black people, the Rev. Jesse Jackson said in Greenville on Friday.

"Ben 'Pitchfork' Tillman was a racist who reacted to the African-American people with violence," said Jackson, a Greenville native. "He recommended genocide against black people."

In an exclusive preview of his remarks as keynote speaker at Greenville's MLK Diversity Banquet on Friday night, Jackson also criticized Gov. Nikki Haley and other state leaders for refusing to expand Medicaid.

"The state is reducing the life expectancies of poor people," Jackson tole The Greenville News as he prepared to speak at the TD Convention Center. "One-fourth of South Carolina is in poverty. People can't get mammograms and can't see a doctor but have to resort to emergency rooms."[...]

Clemson student Colby Lanham, a communications studies major, disagreed with Jackson. "We all know the history of Tillman," Lanham said. "We know his viewpoints as well as those of Thomas Green Clemson and John C. Calhoun. But renaming a building won't change history or Tillman's view of minorities."

Lanham supports recent diversity initiatives by Clemson President Jim Clements and suggested the school should do more to recruit minority students and faculty.

"Focusing on those efforts instead of renaming buildings is a more constructive idea," Lanham said.

Don't Expect To Order That Starbucks Latte In Havana Just Yet

(Majority of Cubans want car parts for a 55 Chevy...)

Via Stars and Stripes:
http://www.stripes.com/news/americas/don-t-expect-to-order-that-starbucks-latte-in-havana-just-yet-1.324301

Despite the Obama administration's easing of some restrictions on travel and commerce with Cuba, don't expect Starbucks to soon dot every Havana street corner or Marriott to start building a beachfront hotel.

The U.S. trade embargo imposed in the 1960s, and subsequent further restrictions on commerce with Cuba, remain in effect and can be lifted only by Congress. For the time being, companies from Canada, Brazil, Spain, Mexico and elsewhere can breathe easy. They won't be facing well-financed U.S. competitors, either in trade or investment on the island.

Most trade with, and investment in, Cuba remains off limits. That's because the openings announced Friday restrict commercial activities to individual Cubans without ties to government and private companies. And Cuba remains an almost entirely state-run economy.

The relaxed rules "push the ball forward," said Paul Johnson, president of Chicago Foods International and vice chairman of the U.S. Agriculture Coalition for Cuba, which hopes to roll back the embargo. "But it's going to take an act of Congress to do anything truly impactful. There's a lot that can't be done yet."

For example, while Caterpillar or its suppliers may find it easier to send tractors or replacement parts to Cuba, U.S. cattlemen and poultry producers still can't supply Cuban-owned hotel chains and resorts that are chock full of rich European vacationers.[...]

What little Cuba does export is unlikely to reach U.S. shores anytime soon, he added.

"From rum and cigars to sugar and nickel, none of that will happen," Claver-Carone said confidently.

How fast that changes depends more on the Cuban government than it does on the U.S. Congress. Lawmakers are reluctant to scrap the trade embargo without signs that Cuban leader Raul Castro is willing to cede political space to opponents and reduce the state's role in the economy.

Report: Up To 180 Sleeper Terrorists Prepping For Attacks

Via Newsmax:
http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/sleeper-cells-threats-europe/2015/01/17/id/619194/

Up to 20 sleeper cells comprising 120 to 180 people may be ready to strike targets in several European countries, intelligence source say in the wake of the discovery of an "imminent threat" of an attack in Belgium this week.

More than two dozen people with suspected ties to Islamic extremists were arrested in a sweep Friday, and an unnamed Western intelligence source told CNN that as many as 20 sleeper cells are ready to strike targets in France, Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands.

"There is a tremendous amount of concern over sleeper cells in Europe," said the official, who CNN reports has direct knowledge of the evolving situation.

Authorities are concerned about copycat attacks through Europe following the incidents that unfolded in Paris earlier this month, said the official, comparing the terror threat to a "slow-motion car accident happening right in front of us."

21% Of The People Who Live In Washington D.C. Are Now On Food Stamps

Via USA Today:
http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/personalfinance/2015/01/17/cheat-sheet-states-with-most-food-stamps/21877399/

With grocery bills priced as high as $1,300 per month as of late, some American workers simply cannot afford all of their groceries on top of everything else they already have to buy. This is why the government offers food stamps.

The USDA Food and Nutrition Service reports that as of September 2014, there were around 46.5 million individual food stamp recipients (22.7 million households) receiving an average benefit of $123.74 each (around $257 per household).

To be eligible, a household has to earn a gross income amount that's less than 130% of the poverty level, or a net income amount (gross income minus deductions) that's less than 100% of the poverty level for their family size.

This means, a single person can be eligible for food stamps if his or her gross monthly income is under $1,265 ($15,180 per year), and a family of four can be eligible if they gross less than $2,584 per month ($31,008 per year). The applicant also can't be a wealthy person who simply doesn't have a steady income source. So, if the applicant has thousands of dollars sitting in the bank, for instance, they won't apply as cash assets are considered as well.

We've created a list of the states that have the most food stamp recipients per capita. To determine the states on this list, we used the USDA Food Nutrition Service's most recent state-by-state data, coupled with population data from the Census Bureau. States with the highest number of food stamp participants relative to population ranked highest. We've also included a state-by-state breakdown of food stamp use in all 50 states and the District of Columbia
