Reports Emerge of Syrian Jihadist Rebels Massacre of Alawites:
Baby's Head Hanging From Tree,
Woman Sliced In Half With Each Half Hung From Separate Trees

Jabhat al-Nusra fighter: the rebels' aim was to send the government a message that even the Alawite heartland was no longer safe.

Via Guardian:
http://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/oct/02/syria-massacre-reports-alawites-assad

For more than two years, as fighting has escalated throughout Syria, a group of villages peopled by government supporters in the mountains above this coastal city has been spared any attacks.

In spite of their proximity to the Turkish border, across which rebel fighters are armed and financed, farmers continued their lives as normal, even though as Alawites allied to the Shia sect to which President Bashar al-Assad belongs they could have been obvious targets.

At dawn on 4 August their peace was shattered. Armed rebels, led by local jihadis as well as members of Jabhat al-Nusra and the al-Qaida linked group, Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, left their headquarters in the largely Sunni town of Salma. They sneaked into the al-Akrad mountains, taking control of five Alawite villages. The rebels called it Operation Liberation of the Coast and the aim was to send the government a message that even the Alawite heartland was no longer safe. [...]

The Syrian army has not allowed foreign reporters into the Alawite villages to check the massacre reports, but in Latakia city the Guardian spoke to three officers who took part in recapturing the villages. Each was interviewed in separate locations. Two were relaxing off-duty in beach-front hotels and villas. They spoke of executions and other atrocities.

"The attacks started with treachery," said Hassan, an officer in Syria's special forces. "There was a unit of 40 troops. A Sunni defected from it and took 30 other Sunnis with him. A few days later they were part of the attack that started with the village of Hambushiya. The 10 Alawite troops left behind in the area were killed." Hassan said he could listen to the rebel's radio communications. "I heard a rebel telling another rebel: 'Kill this one, but not that one' . One rebel asked: 'What do I do about the girls?' The answer came: 'I'm sending a truck to pick them up'. Several were taken and raped, and have not been seen again," he said.

"They kidnapped Sheikh Badr Ghazal and stripped girls and the sheikh to humiliate him. The sheikh was then killed. Rebels videoed the events and we found the pictures on the mobiles of dead rebels when we retook the villages. They have not been shown on Syrian TV or media because they are too distressing."

Shadi, a 32-year-old officer in a local defence unit that is separate from the Syrian army, was lightly wounded during the government's counter-attack. "When we got into the village of Balouta I saw a baby's head hanging from a tree. There was a woman's body which had been sliced in half from head to toe and each half was hanging from separate apple trees. It made me feel I wanted to do something wild," he recalled.

Ali, a member of the regular army, said he also saw the baby's head. "We found two mass graves with 140 bodies. They were not shot. They had their throats slit. About 105 people of different ages were kidnapped," he said. "It's really scary what happened. Nobody has gone home to the villages because so much has been destroyed and many houses have been burnt. The whole area is unusable. Salafists from abroad were behind the attack."

Arab Group Demands 9/11 Memorial Brochures Be Printed In Arabic

(Hey, it's not like the hijackers were speaking Arabic as they crashed their planes into the towers.  The 9/11 Memorial is giving tourists brochures in at least 10 languages... just not Arabic.  The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee is firing off letters to memorial honchos demanding answers on why they didn't include the world's fourth-most-spoken language.  "Our fear is that there is a political intention behind the exclusion," said Raed Jarrar, the ADC's director of communications and advocacy.  The memorial said there aren't enough Arabic-speaking visitors to justify printing tourism materials in the language)

The memorial said there aren't enough Arabic-speaking visitors to justify printing tourism materials in the language.

The memorial said, "Nine languages are spoken by over 97 percent of our visitors: English, Spanish, German, French, Portuguese, Mandarin, Italian, Japanese and Russian."

"As Arabic-speaking visitors currently represent our 25th-largest group, Arabic translations are not yet among the initial foreign language editions."

Military Chaplains Threatened With Arrest If They
Celebrate Mass On Bases During Shutdown

(Mind boggling to think a priest could be arrested simply for holding mass)

Via Daily Caller:
In a stunning development, some military priests are facing arrest if they celebrate mass or practice their faith on military bases during the federal government shutdown.

"With the government shutdown, many [government service] and contract priests who minister to Catholics on military bases worldwide are not permitted to work – not even to volunteer," wrote John Schlageter, the general counsel for the Archdiocese for the Military Services USA, in an op-ed this week. "During the shutdown, it is illegal for them to minister on base and they risk being arrested if they attempt to do so."

According to its website, the Archdiocese for the Military Services "provides the Catholic Church's full range of pastoral ministries and spiritual services to those in the United States Armed Forces."

The 60,000-strong Thomson Reuters media empire, in an effort to determine its diversity success, is asking its staff of reporters, researchers, marketers and others to pick their sex from nine choices, including "genderqueer," a category for identities other than man or woman.

According to the company's annual employee survey, choosing a sexual identity doesn't have to be based on a worker's actual sex, but instead "a person's innate, deeply felt psychological identification."

The survey is part of the mega-media company's effort to chart its progress in becoming a more diverse international corporation.

"It enables us to get a good sense of the demographic of our employee population," said London-based Thomson Reuters spokeswoman Jocelyn Betts.

Readers Meet Chad, The New Julia

It tarted with this....

Which lead to this....

Which caused people to look further into his relationships...

So now Chad is sad because people are calling him a liar...

And now papers are retracting that he ever bought Insurance, tried to participate in Obamacare and that he's just an OFA shill.

Father of Obamacare Success Story Chad Henderson Says His Son Didn't Sign Up For Obamacare –

Update: Chad Henderson Confirms He Did Not Buy Insurance Through Obamacare

Oh boy.

Via Reason:
http://reason.com/archives/2013/10/04/obamacare-chad-henderson-father

Chad Henderson is the media's poster boy for Obamacare. Reporters struggled this week to find individuals who said they had been able to enroll in one of the law's 36 federally run health-insurance exchanges.

That changed yesterday, when they found Henderson, a 21-year-old student and part-time child-care worker who lives in Georgia and says that he successfully enrolled himself and his father Bill in insurance plans via the online exchange administered at healthcare.gov.

But in an exclusive phone interview this morning with Reason, Chad father's Bill contradicted virtually every major detail of the story the media can't get enough of. What's more, some of the details that Chad has released are also at odds with published rate schedules and how Obamacare officials say the enrollment system works.

The coverage of Chad Henderson has been massive. He was featured in The Washington Post Thursday as "the Obamacare enrollee that tons of reporters are calling." He was also profiled in The Huffington Post as someone who "beat the glitches to sign up for Obamacare." He was interviewed by Politico, multiple local news organizations, and, according to his Facebook feed, was asked to be part of a conference call hosted by the Department of Health and Human Services.

[...]

But details of Chad's story proved difficult to verify. And in a phone interview conducted this morning, Chad's father Bill contradicted major details of Chad's story. I reached Bill Henderson by following a series of links at Chad's Facebook page, through which I was able to speak directly to the father.

Bill Henderson told me that both he and his son were interested in getting coverage, but that they had not enrolled in any plan yet, and to his knowledge, neither had his son. He also said that when they do enroll, getting the most coverage for the least money would be the goal, and that he expects that he and his son will get coverage under the same plan.

Bill told me that Chad had been looking into plans online. "He told me that there's different plans. And we haven't decided which plans to enroll in yet."

Update: LOL!

Is Obamacare's celebrity enrollee actually signed up?
Either somebody is lying, or the Henderson family needs to work on its communication skills.

Washington Post @washingtonpost

Chad Henderson's claiming he didn't lie because he never said he bought health insurance through the exchange. That is a lie:

(HuffPo) — The Hendersons are getting a lot of attention right now as one of the few people who have publicly identified themselves as having signed up for Obamacare. The Wall Street Journal has contacted him, Chad claims, and the Washington Post featured him in a blog post Thursday. The Huffington Post contacted him via Twitter late Wednesday. Chad volunteered for President Barack Obama's reelection campaign last year.

The Hendersons, who are among 48 million uninsured in the U.S., had to stay motivated — and awake — to finish applying for coverage, Chad said. About 45 minutes after creating an account on the website, Chad chose separate "bronze" plans for himself and his father. Bronze health insurance plans typically have the lowest premiums but the highest out-of-pocket costs, like deductibles and co-payments, meaning patients have to pay more when they receive medical care. The exchanges are intended for the uninsured and for those who buy their own health insurance rather than for those who get it through their employers.

"Once I created an account, there were hardly any glitches at all after that," Chad said, likening the shopping experience to comparing cell phones on Verizon's website.

The Hendersons could have opted for a single plan for both of them, because the health law allows young adults to stay on a parent's health insurance until they turn 26, but Bill Henderson thought his son should buy his own. "He's old school, so he wants me to take responsibility," Chad said.

So Chad will pay the full sticker price for his insurance, which is $175 a month, while his father will receive tax credits to cut the cost of his down to $250 a month. Tax credits are available to people who earn between the poverty level and four times that amount, or about $46,000 for a single person.

Angry Park Ranger Admits They Were Told To
"Make Life As Difficult For People As We Can"

We have already seen, in multiple cases, a clear effort by the Obama administration to use the National Park Service to inflict public pain.

From the effort to block off Mount Vernon, which is run by private funds, to actually spending more money and manpower to shut off open air memorials, the administration has made it clear the effort in shutting these things down is not about saving money, but about using these actions to make a political point.

A senior administration official actually fluffed off the shutdown, noting that "they were winning" so they didn't care about the shutdown (or who it might hurt).

Now the Washington Times is actually reporting an angry park ranger says park rangers were specifically told to "make life as difficult for people as we can".

How much lower can the Obama pettiness go?
