John J. Nusz, 91, of Caney, Kansas, passed away Monday, August 27, 2012 at his home in Caney.  He was born November 4, 1920 in Orienta, Oklahoma, the son of John and Sara (Penner) Nusz.

John grew up in Orienta, Oklahoma and attended the Orienta School System.  In June 1947, he was united in marriage to Phyllis Henthorn, and the couple made their home in Summner, Oklahoma.  In February 2005, Phyllis preceded John in death.  He worked as a self-employed Custom Harvester, farmer, and rancher.  He was a member of the Tyro Christian Church in Tyro, Kansas.  He lived 14 years in Caney, coming there from Longton, Kansas.

Survivors include two sons, Jim Nusz of Caney, Kansas and Larry Nusz of Severy, Kansas; three daughters, Cheryl Johnson of Caney, Kansas, Renita Seimears of Independence, Kansas, and Rhonda Geissinger of Gilborts Ville, Pennsylvania; two brothers, Pete Nusz of Rose Hill, Kansas and Adam Nusz of Wellington, Kansas; five sisters, Olivia Milligan of Enid, Oklahoma, Kate Dyck of Corn, Oklahoma, Sarah Koop of Howard, Kansas, Hannah James of Pond Creek, Oklahoma, and Ruth Blackwell of Tulsa, Oklahoma; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.  

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 31, 2012 at the Tyro Christian Church in Tyro, Kansas with Evangelist David Bycroft officiating.  Burial will follow in the Sunnyside Cemetery in Caney, Kansas under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Caney.  

The family has suggested memorials to the Harry Hynes Hospice, Coffeyville, Kansas, and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel, 107 N. State, Caney, Kansas 67333.
