Lorene K. Mitchell, 76, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday afternoon, June 21, 2012 at William Newton Hospital in Winfield.  Born on November 3, 1935 in Grenola, Kansas, she was the daughter of Otta and Cora (Crawford) Terry.

She was raised and received her education in Grenola, graduating from Grenola High School in 1953.  She was employed at the William Newton Memorial Hospital in the dietary department.  She was united in marriage on January 17, 1964 to Travis Mitchell in Winfield, Kansas where the couple made their home.  Lorene was a fulltime homemaker and enjoyed collecting figurines and dolls, cooking, and ceramics.  She was also a seamstress and had made wedding dresses for the family.  Lorene was a member of the Church of Christ in Winfield.

Her family includes her husband, Travis, of the home; her sons, Forrest Mitchell and wife, Bernadine of Noble, Oklahoma and Bradley Mitchell of Winfield, Kansas; her brothers, Leroy Terry and wife, Joan of Grenola, Kansas, Dwain Terry and wife, Loretta of Cheney, Kansas, and Williard Terry and wife, Olivia of Wichita, Kansas; her sisters, Louise Howell and husband, Jerry of Grenola, Kansas, Berdina Terry of Wichita, Kansas, and Linda Stevenson and husband, Bob of Newton, Kansas; her grandson, Travis Mitchell and wife, Rachel of Noble, Oklahoma; and a host of nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Ross Mitchell.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 25, 2012 at Highland Cemetery in Winfield, Kansas.  A memorial  has been established in Lorene'e name for Hospice Care of Kansas.  Contributions may be made through the Miles Funeral Service, 4001 E.
