Funeral services for Miss Janet Ann Strachan, who died April 19th, at her home southeast of Howard, were held at the Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m., Thursday, conducted by Rev. A. R. Griggs. The hymns were well rendered by a quartette choir, the personelle of which was J. B. Hanna, tenor, Mrs. Alexander Rader, soprano, Mrs. Mildred Taylor, alto, and Darrel Vinette, bass; Mrs. A. R. Griggs, piano.  The floral offerings were appropriate and lovely. The discourse of Rev. Griggs was good.  Reviewing briefly the history of the Scotch-Irish people in America and their part in our development, he cited as concrete example the Strachan family, all born in Scotland and emigrating to Kansas in 1872, where Alexander Strachan, head of the family, deeded land and established the present home where his sons and daughters have dwelt till the present time and where the life of Miss Janet Strachan ended Tuesday, April 19. She was in her eighty-first year and for the greater part of her life had been an invalid.  It is probable that, for her, death was but a happy release.  Her younger sister, Miss Margaret Strachan, has been her faithful nurse and housekeeper for many years and, together with her brothers, L.G. and William Strachan, Janet has never known the meaning of lack or need.

Janet Ann Strachan was born November 10, 1857, at Keith Hall, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.  She received her education in Scotland and there united with the Presbyterian Church.  She was the oldest daughter of a family of eight brothers and sisters who all accompanied the parents to America in 1872, locating on the same farm mentined above and where the immediate family still reside.  Those sho survive her are Louis G. Strachan, William Strachan, Maggie Strachan, two brothers and a sister. Nieces and nephews are Mrs. Dale A. Bryant, of Wichita, Mrs. John Heisler, of Lyons, Kansas, and Alexander Strachan of Howard. Burial was in Grace Lawn cemetery.
