A very pleasant event in rural society circles, was the marriage Wednesday evening, Dec. 13, 1911, of Mr. Walter Baughman to Miss Hattie Miller, at the home of the brides parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Miller of PawPaw.  In the presence of more than fifty guests the contracting parties preceded by Rev. Bolin of Severy, entered the parlor to the strains of "Bridal Chorus by Lohengren" rendered by Miss Jennie Highsmith.  After the marriage ceremony and congratulations, the company was ushered into the dining room and seated to a superb wedding feast.  The bride was a recipient of many useful presents.  On Thursday an infair dinner was served at the home of the groom's parents, Mr. and Mrs. P.H. Baughman, at which most of the guests of the preceding evening were present.  Mr. and Mrs. Baughman certainly began their now relations under most favorable suspices.  They are from the most highly respected families are two of our most popular young people. A host of friends wish these young people a happy and prosperous wedded life.

Did you notice that the author of this article said that the "bride was the recipient of many fine gifts."?  Apparently, the groom didn't get anything.

About the only thing I have ever known the groom to get was-----stuck with the bills!!!!!!!   Instead of getting anything, the groom was expected to give out cigars. ::) ::)
