Gary D. Arndt, 69, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Monday evening, January 30, 2012 at Via Christi St. Francis of Wichita, Kansas.  Born on February 25, 1942 in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of Carl Lewis and Pearl (Sweet) Arndt.

Gary was raised and received his education in Grenola, Kansas, graduating from Grenola High School in 1961.  After high school, he attended Emporia State University on a football scholarship.  He then moved to St. Louis, Missouri where he went to work for Coca-Cola.  He later returned to Coffeyville, Kansas where he worked for Pepsi Cola.  In 1968, Gary moved to Winfield, Kansas where he began work at Binney & Smith.  

Gary was united in marriage to Betty Frieden on March 9, 1971 in Miami, Oklahoma.  The couple made their home in the Winfield area and raised their children there. He remained working for Binney & Smith for over 30 years until retiring in 1998.  He later went to work for the City of Winfield.  He enjoyed reading, fishing, woodworking, and tinkering with just about anything he could.  He especially loved spending time with his grandson, Jacob.

His family includes his daughters, Melissa Webb and husband, James of Winfield, Kansas and Jennifer Arndt and fiance, Christopher Berry of Winfield, Kansas; his grandchildren, Cedrick, Clayton, and Jacob Brooks, Kaleb and Ashley Albritton, and Brooke Webb; his brother, Vernon Hughes and wife, Jane of Coffeyville, Kansas; his sisters, Sandy Ball and husband, Ray of Winfield, Kansas, Ruth Depew and husband Larry of Wichita, Kansas, and Donna Whetstine of Howard, Kansas; and a host of nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents and wife, Gary was preceded in death by his brother, Carl Mac Arndt, and an infant brother, Duane Arndt.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 4, 2012 at Miles Funeral Service, 4001 E. 9th Avenue, Winfield, Kansas 67156.  Inurnment will follow at Highland Cemetery.  A memorial has been established in Mr. Arndt's name for the American Cancer Society.  Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
