Ruby Lucille (Pickell) Chaffain-Patchett went to be with her Lord on May 20, 2011.  Ruby was 94 years old and has lived the past several years at Presbyterian Manor in Emporia, Kansas.  Ruby was born May 26, 1917 north of Elk Falls, Kansas to George Albert and Laura Ellen (Shaw) Pickell.

She attended grade school in a one-room country school and graduated from Elk Falls High School.  On May 26, 1936, Ruby married Clarence Albert Chaffain in Emporia, Kansas.  They lived near Madison, Hamilton, Tonovay, and Emporia when Clarence was teaching school.  They moved to Wichita, Kansas where Clarence worked for Cessna a few years and then later worked for Beech Aircraft for 33 years.  In 1955, they bought the Severy Locker and moved to Severy, Kansas.  In 1970, they moved to Fall River, Kansas, and in 1989 moved to Emporia to be closer to their children and their families.  Clarence died April 12, 1992.  Ruby was united in marriage to Wayne Patchett on October 5, 1996.  He preceded her in death on August 19,. 2003.

Ruby was a member of the Christian Churches at Elk Falls, Severy, Fall River, and Twin Rivers in Emporia.  She was also a member of the Eastern Star Columbia Chapter 142 in Howard, Kansas, a Girl Scout leader in Wichita, and belonged to the Lend-A-Hand Club, CWF, and Fall River Senior Citizens.

Ruby is survived by her daughter, Melba Ankerholz Lawrence Rhudy (Ken  Baker) of Americus, Kansas; her son, Earnie Chaffain (Peggy) of Hartford, Kansas; two stepsons, Doyle Patchett (Georgie) of Derby, Kansas, and David Patchett (Rachael) of Suffolk, Virginia; seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren. five great-great grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, and eight step great-grandchildren.  Besides her husbands, Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, George and Laura Pickell; a daughter, Juanita Knudsen Keeler; two great-great-grandchildren; and four brothers, Albert, Charles, Cleetis, and Clifford Pickell.

She will be missed by many and was loved by all who knew her.

Funeral services will be held at Countryside-Zimmerman Funeral Home, 206 E. Washington, Howard, Kansas 67349 on May 24, 2011 at 11:00 a.m., and interment will be at Grace Lawn Cemetery in Howard, Kansas.  Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, May 23, 2011 at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Emporia Presbyterian Manor, Ruby Patchett Memorial, 2300 Industrial Road, Emporia, Kansas 66801.
