Alta M. (Keeler) Runyan, 78, of Winfield, Kansas, went to walk with her Lord on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at William Newton Hospital in Winfield.  Born on January 1, 1933 in Coyville, Kansas, she was the daughter of Charles Washington and Ethel (Sherlock) Keeler.

She received her early education in Coyville, Peru, and Moline, Kansas.  She graduated from the 8th grade in Piedmont, Kansas.  In 1944, the family moved to Moline, Kansas where she attended high school and met Jack Runyan.  She was united in marriage to Jack on June 25, 1949 in Howard, Kansas.  The couple made their home in Moline until 1969 when they moved to Winfield.  In 1984 they moved to rural Arkansas City, Kansas.  Jack preceded her in death on May 15, 1990, and Alta returned to Winfield in 1991.  Alta had worked for various pharmacies and retired from Graves Drug Store in Winfield in 2006.

She was a member of the Oxford Christian church and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, working in the yard, and enjoying the quiet life.

Her family includes her son, Allen Runyan and wife, Eva of Winfield, Kansas; her daughters, Oleta Turner and husband, Larry of Winfield, Kansas and Norma "Jodi" Morton and husband, Tom of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; her grandchildren, Brian Turner and wife, Jennifer, Deann Turner-Metz and husband, Jason, Craig Turner and wife, Carrie, Mark Hall and wife, Becky, John Morton, Dedra Wilson and husband, Dale, and Levi Morton; her great-grandchildren, Jack and Logan Metz, Lucas and Gavin Turner, Wade and Taylor Hall, Zabreana, Serenity, Zachery, and Jasmine Wilson, and Emalee Yingling; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Martin "Bob" Keeler and Norris Keeler; and her sisters, Georgia Reno, Glenna Evenson, June Froese, Mary Alice Series, Josephine Welch, and Una Steed.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at Miles Funeral Service, 4001 E. 9th Avenue, Winfield, Kansas 67156.  Interment will follow at the Belknap Cemetery northeast of Cedar Vale, Kansas in Chautauqua County.  Memorials have been established in Alta's name for the Oxford Christian, Church, Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, and Victory in the Valley.  Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
